The V8 Amca's debuted but the ASCF Juniors starred !!! Posted 19th November 2006 The V8 Amca's made there debut at Maryborough and put on a great show but the 22 ASCF Juniors stole the show with an outstanding display of fast, clean and entertaining racing. The ASCF Juniors who will be contesting there Australian Title at Maryborough on December 28, 29 & 30, dazzled the crowd last night. Every single heat race was close, fair and fast and the only incident was Charlie Brown getting a helping hand into the side of Kirstin Van Zeeland, sending both hard into the main straight fence. A full field of 20 ASCF Juniors lined up for the final to contest the President's Trophy and the race went from green to chequered flag without a stoppage and Brisbane's Shane Heathcote was victorious from Ryan Pearce, Michael Francis, Jayden Peacock and Scott Thomsen. The very appreciative crowd is now looking forward to the Australian Title when over 50 ASCF Juniors get the chance at being crowned A1. In the V8 Amca's, Peter Britten not only won the Final, he won 3 from 3 heat races and stopped the clock at 15.86 seconds on a super fast Maryborough circuit. The track was once again very driving which provided a lot of side by side racing action. Eric Knight came home in the final in second in front of Lismore's Keith Duggin. The Amca's loved their first ever hit out at Maryborough and are keen to return next season. The QSCA Junior Street Sedan Final started with front runners Scott Thomsen and Brett Baxter both being sent rear of the field, after tangling on the first lap of the feature race. At the restart allowed the current Queensland champ, Jason Slade to run away with the win. Thomsen and Baxter battled back through the field to finish in second and third. The Division Street Sedan final was taken out by Maryborough's Chris Elliot who brought his brand new falcon home in front of Neil Harm and Russell Cowley. The race was declared after Dempsie Pails ran wide and hit the turn two fence. Dempsie was taken away to hospital, but was soon released later without any serious injuries. Due to the delay with the Pails incident the Street Sedan division two final and the Flying Formula 500 A Main didn't get to got ahead, but the Maryborough Sporting Car Club is governed by a curfew and must abide by it. Heat race action from the Formula 500's saw Nathan Pronger get his PRT/Racetec working nicely getting laps times down to 13 seconds flat. Not only did Pronger do this he also rolled his car over in turn two. Maryborough duo of Dan Moes and Dale Shilleto both showed plenty of speed on the "hooky" Maryborough surface. The next meeting on the calendar is the Burnout Bonanza on December 2, and the following day will be an Practice Day that everyone is invited to come and watch for only a gold coin donation. The next speedway meeting is a cracker as the ASCF Juniors will contest the 2007 ASCF Junior Australian Title on 28th, 29th & 30th December. The final night of the 3 day event will also feature a massive fireworks show. Speedway back on this Saturday night Posted 14th November 2006 Get set for a ripper of a meeting this Saturday night when the sound of V8 engine bring to life the heritage city raceway. V8 Amca's are extremely keen to have their first ever run on the Maryborough Speedway and we will have drivers coming from as far away north as Blackwater and Rockhampton and south from Lismore. At this stage a quality field of 15 V8 Amca's are confirmed and due to crashes and engine blowouts at Lismore and Brisbane last weekend, about 8 - 10 drivers are busily working on their race cars to make it to Maryborough so we may end up with over 20.
Formula 500's with the late notice have gathered a super field of around 15 and Oval Express superstars, Alan Gimson, Dan Moes and Dale Shilleto have all nominated. Both Mick and Nathan Pronger will be keen to take the prize money back to Bundy, but will have also have the Brisbane gang of Eddie Schwella, Ross Mason and Jamie Oliver just to name a few. The flying Formula 500's will once again put on a super show as these 200kg race machines, lap the Maryborough Speedway in 13 seconds.
The ASCF Juniors have a cracker field of 20 cars which have their last hit out at Maryborough Speedway before the Australian ASCF Junior to be held on December 28,29 & 30. The ASCF Juniors will contest the Presidents Trophy this Saturday, and you can expect this beautifully presented 1.2L sedans to turn on some of the best racing of the night.
Over 30 drivers in division one and two Street Sedans are keen to fight it out this Saturday night and since the last meeting at September 23rd, plenty of new cars and drivers will join the rest of the other drivers and try to biff and barge their way to victory. QSCA Juniors round out the program and another 20 Juniors will have their last hit-out before the QSCA Junior QLD title to be run at Maryborough on Jan 20. As always, a full bar and canteen will be operational and gates will open at 3pm with racing starting at 5:30 SHARP. Formula 500's added to support card this Saturday night Posted 13th November 2006 The host track of the 2007 Australian Formula 500 Title, have added the flying Formula 500's to the program for this Saturday nights meeting. Blue Cards Posted 13th November 2006 Just a reminder that all club officials/volunteers MUST hold a current blue card as our sport involves Children. Blue cards are free and all you need to do is fill out a few forms. Forms can be collected from Daryn or Petrina Brims. Improved seating at Maryborough Posted 13th November 2006 After another successful working bee on Sunday, the club has improved the seating capacity by removing the fence that separated the back straight to the pits in turn 2. That fence has been moved up into turn one and will allow a heap more room for fans to lay a blanket or put a chair down to watch all the speedway action. After the massive crowds that have been supporting Maryborough this season, and due to the demand on facilities the club has also purchased brand new registers to decrease the waiting/line times at both ticket boxes, the canteen and the bar. We are working on making Maryborough Speedway the premier venue in Queensland. We have plenty of big tasks still on the "to do" list, such as building another 10 grandstands and also to extend the pits, so we can hold more cars and transporters as we anticipate this season to be our biggest ever and next season will blow your minds. So for all club members that can lend a hand please contact the executive's and they will be-able to let you know when the next working bee will be on. V8 Amca's coming to town Posted 9th November 2006 For the first time ever, V8 Amca's are coming to Maryborough Speedway for the next meeting on November 18, so I suggest get a long and enjoy the rumble of the V8's.
So you might ask what is a V8 Amca ? V8 Amca's are a fantastic, fast racing division that are one of the fastest growing forms of Speedway and will lap around Maryborough faster then Modified Productions do.
V8 Amca's run a V8 Holden 253 engine and use the sub frame and cross member out of either a Holden Kingswood, Statesmen or Premier models HQ - WB. Amca's also run a control tyre which always makes for some of the closest sedan racing currently around. Stay tuned for more information as this will be an excellent "tin top" meeting with plenty of nominations in each division. 'Dale and Meyers' Fraser Coast Bike Extravaganza Posted 5th November 2006 If you want to break a drought, bring the worlds best solos riders to town and the heavens will open and didn't it "bucket" down. At 2pm, members of the Speedway where all feeling positive about getting a meeting done, when a dark cloud hit the speedway dropping nearly 2 inches of rain in 30 minutes. After the storm, the international riders, track crew and members gathered on the track and where happy to see the track with hold the onslaught from mother nature. It was decided that if the rain would hold off for the afternoon and night, we would run the meeting. By 5:30pm, the track was looking okay and the sun was shining and racing went ahead as planned. Unfortunately, over half of the riders in the Support Divisions didn't brave the conditions and decided to stay at home, but the riders left certainly put on an awesome show. Once again the crowd favourites of the night would of been the young children on the 50cc bikes who raced 3 and 4 wide for each heat and where cheered on every step of the way by the die hard fans that braved the conditions to support the club. The 50's where won by Troy Guenther with Bailey Jung and Alex Howlett rounding out the top 3. Special mention of all the other little champions who all had a ball on the heavy track. They where Nicholas Scott, Anthony Orr and the crowd favourite who got faster with every lap he did Tarsuin Van Wamelen. Only 2 of the Junior 65cc riders turned up both the two brothers had a heap of fun, but it was older bother Travis who will have bragging rights of Nathan in the Zschech residents. Stock Bikes put on some breath taking action with Maryborough lad Brenton Mathiesen taking out the night from Ben Peut and Tim Murray. Graham Smith had a massive fall in turn one and we wish him a speedy recovery after he sustained a broken leg. Sidecars razzled and dazzled under tricky conditions but the Gympie team of Bill and Loueen Sewell where unstoppable by taking the event out from the father and son team of Paul and Daniel Newman and the North Queensland team of Josh Sinnott and Hamish Golding. The Golden Helmet Series was a top shelf affair and the heat racing was amazing as the Aussies stuck it to the internationals in the earlier heats. The first Semi final lined up with Australia's Jon White, Josh Grajczonek and Ashley Cathcart facing the red hot Czech Champ, Filip Siteria. The action was elbow to elbow and as they came around to take the chequered flag it was Siteria that beat home Jonno White to book themselves a spot in the Final. The second Semi Final saw Australia's Ricky Barney beat home the New Zealand champ, Andrew Aldridge with Adam Vandirek and Mitchell Davey. Club officials had a close eye on the internet weather map as a big storm closed in on the Maryborough Circuit. The final lined up with Siteria, White, Aldridge and Barney. The raced started with Siteria flying around a foot off the fence from the outside gate to take the lead, but this is when trouble struck with the Qld flyer Ricky Barney falling from his machine sending him hard into the fence. Barney was only a little shaken from the heavy contact, but obviously didn't continue. At the restart, White and Siteria battled side by side for the first lap when White laid his bike over also in turn one allowing Siteria to run away and win round one of the Golden Helmet Series. New Zealand Champ, Andrew Aldridge was next home from Jon White. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank everyone that braved the conditions and still came out and supported the international bike event. Your support was very appreciative and we look forward to putting on some more massive bike events next season. You don't have to wait long for more speedway action as November 18 is just around the corner and will feature the roar of the V8 Amca's, ASCF Juniors, QSCA Juniors and Street Sedans divisions 1 and 2. They will have to fend off the always fast team of Bill and Loueen Sewell. Plenty of other red hot Sidecars team will once again "turn it on" for the expected massive crowd. The local motorcross boys and girls will take on Brisbane's best as the trade the jumps for the super fast speedway circuit. V8 Sprintcar Meeting a Massive success Posted 18th October 2006 With one of the biggest crowds turning out at Maryborough Speedway last Saturday, it shows that speedway is certainly strong and healthy on the Fraser Coast. Thousands of people watched one of the best nights of speedway that has ever been seen at Maryborough Speedway. The night got under way with Andrew Scheuelre setting quick time in time trials in the Sprintcars. The Sprintcar heat races where unbelievable as drivers search high and low for the fastest way around the lightning fast track. It wasn't until the Dash when Andrew Scheuelre blitzed the held to ensure a pole position for the final, but he also set a new lap record of 11.151 seconds. The final was a cracker, with Thorley leading Scheuelre, Jensen, Wright and Mann for many laps until Jensen got caught up with a back marker and flipped in turn 2. This wasn't the only action at the red light stoppage, because Graham Sharp pulled to the infield with his new razor in flames. Sharp's race suit was also on fire, but the quick thinking Crash Crew extinguished the fire and ensure that no harm was done. After the restart, it was a race to the finish and on the last lap, Thorley ran high into turn one allowing Scheuerle and Wright to get through and finish in that order with Thorley having to settle for 3rd. Scheuerle was obviously ecstatic with the win and thanked his crew and the Maryborough track crew for preparing an outstanding track to race on. Ben Wright was extremely happy about running second and is looking forward to coming back and racing on March 17th. The 'IFS' Trevor Schofield Formula 500 Memorial ran the World Series Sprintcar format and it was Woolongong's Steve Caunt who set quick time in Time Trials. Heat winners were Tony Schmidt, Dan Moes, Mick Pronger and Robert Muscat. The A Dash was won by Steve Caunt but was it was Matt Jordan that stole the show in the Dash with a series of flips and rolls along the back straight after running high and making contact with cement fence. The B Dash ran green to chequered and was won by Dan Moes. The A Main lined up with 18 Formula 500's all chasing the $1000 first prize and didn't they turn it on, Mick Pronger, Dan Moes, Alan Gimson and Steve Caunt all diced and swapped positions on numerous occasions. The red light was brought on when Steve Caunt and Tony Schmidt got caught up and both ended up barrel rolling hard into the turn two wall and made a mess of both cars. Both drivers walked about without any major injuries. At the restart, Gimson raced on to win the Trevor Schofield Memorial from Mick Pronger in second and Dan Moes rounding out the top three. Compact Speedcars returned to Maryborough and once again a good show even though the car count was down. The final was a shortened race as the field was reduced to only four after mechanical dramas forced over half the field on the trailers early. Tony Bealey won the final from Kevin Titman and Darren Bates came home in third. The next outing for the Compact Speedcars at Maryborough will be the Queensland Title, which will be held on January 20. One of Maryborough's favourite classes, Modified Litres turned out and the action started early with Sid Whittaker rolling over after hitting the wall in hotlaps. After the earlier incident, Sid Whittaker went on to win a thrilling feature race after passing Keith Blatch on the last lap. Brad Hilder after spending a busy night also driving a V8 Sprintcar rounded out the top three. The next meeting at Maryborough will be the Fraser Coast Bike Extravaganza which will feature the Golden Helmet series for Solos which features international riders from England, New Zealand and Europe. The support program on the night will be Sidecars, Stock Bikes, Junior 65cc, Junior 50cc and throw in a few burnout cars. Stay tuned for further announcements. The bikes returned to Maryborough after a lengthy absence from the Maryborough Speedway and they put on an amazing display of wheel to wheel racing with a few trills and spills along the way. From the moment the bikes hit the track for practice at 4pm, they where flying. Scott Smith lined up in the Solo A Main as the favourite after 4 wins from his 4 heats, but on the second lap, threw a chain and watched on as the rookie sensation out of Ayr, Josh Grajczonek flew home to win the feature race. Second home was also a North Queensland boy, Mitchell Davey who made the trip down from Townsville. Geoff Tompkins from Brisbane was home in third on his older, but still fast bike. The Sidecar A Main was probably the race of the night and the crowd loved every lap. As the gates flew open all 4 sidecars went into turn one 4 wide and they all raced for position down the back straight. Taylor had the narrowest of leads of team Sewell, Josh Sinnott and Wayne Munck. With only a lap to go Munck came into turn one and snapped and axle and was lucky not to roll his sidecar over. The race was declared and Steve Taylor was given the win, from Bill Sewell and Josh Sinnott in third. The Dirt Track Stock Bikes didn't disappoint as the sight of 10 stock bikes lined up along the starting gate was enough to get the blood running through the veins. Some of Brisbane best lined up against the local boys from Maryborough and Hervey Bay. Not only did the Stock bikes provide some of the closest and fierce racing on the night, they entertained everyone with the post race antics of wheelies and burnouts. The Stock Bike Final was won by Brenton Mathiesen, from Robert Thistleton and Corey Latimer. The Juniors on their 50cc machine won over plenty of hearts as the 5 to 10 year old lined up and raced up a storm. Well done to all the Juniors that put on a fantastic show. The next meeting is in only 2 weeks when the V8 Sprintcars return to Maryborough Speedway as part of the MSAQ Qld Series. Photos from the night will be posted by Wednesday. Stay tuned for more. The sidecars will field one of the best lineups ever seen at the Maryborough Speedway. A couple of hard charges from North Qld are Josh Sinnott/Hamish Golding and Brodie Cohen/Tim Shaw. Both are keen to make the trip south to take home the winners cheque but a couple of other hot chances will be Bill Sewell, Rob Paterson and Steve Taylor. In support to the Solos and Sidecars, will be the Stock Bikes which will see Maryborough motorcross riders take on Brisbane's best on the flat oval track. Dirt Track Sidecars will no doubt entertain, and the Juniors on the Pee Wee 50's will have to be seen to be believed as these 5-10 year old children show off how fast they can go. Matt Jordan who has stepped back into the drivers seat after a few seasons off, finished in 3rd. Division One Street Sedans provided plenty of fireworks and after a fascinating Pole Shuffle won by Brian Francis, he was able to beat home all the other competitors to win the first Division one final of the season. Frank Packer beat Wayne Laverty home for second. Street Sedans division two provided plenty of biff and barge, but David Kent from the Sunshine Coast was able to avoid the carnage and beat home Darren Lyon and Brendan Gillan. Scott Thomsen emerged victorious in the QSCA Junior final winning by over half a lap back to Anita Cooper and Trent Humphries. Vintage Sedans rounded out the night and Allan Stutz won the final from Tony Gablonski and John Watson.
