They are really fun car to drive and you really have to throw the car around to be fast." Lack said. Although this will only be the second time Peter Lack has driven a V8 Dirt Modified, he isn't coming up here to make up numbers. "The field is as good as any Australian Title, but I will give it by best and I will be disappointed if I don't perform well. I have a great team and thanks to the awesome support of Ray Klarich we are planning on putting the #Q95 up the front." Lack stated. Saturday 1st May & Sunday 2nd May, 2010. Maryborough's Scott Thomsen wins Qld Street Sedan Title Posted 13th April, 2009 Maryborough's Scott Thomsen has raced home to win the 2009 Queensland Street Sedan Title held on his home track over the last two nights of racing. Thomsen started off the front row of the feature race and got to the lead and was never trouble, leading every single lap of the feature. Craig Franz came on strong at towards the back end of the feature race and finished second. Steve Thomsen (Scott's father and a former Qld Title winner) rounded out the top three. Brisbane's Mark George won a thrilling Queensland Midget Speedcar Title, ahead of Brock Dean and Michael Harders. New Zealander Stevie Walsh and Sydney's Mark Brown had a fantastic battle at the start of the feature race, until the two came into turn one side by side with lap car in between them and Stevie Walsh rode a wheel, sending him cart-wheeling into the turn one catch and ending up out of the race and another case of "so close". Brown looked as if he would run away with the feature until motor problems forced him out of the "Polar Ice" Queensland Midget Speedcar Title. George hung one as Brock Dean came from the clouds to just about chase down the him. Matt Greenwood ended his night in spectacular fashion after climbing the back straight fence sending himself and his car into a big rollover along the back straight. Matt suffered minor burns from hot oil. Brendan Palmer also had a weekend he would rather forget after setting quick time in the hot lap session and then crashing out in spectacular fashion while leading a heat race on the Saturday night. Palmer completely destroyed his race car, but walked away unhurt. In the Junior Sedan President's Trophy Mitch Thomsen captured a great win ahead of Steve Rowell and Sam Roza. This capped of a great weekend for the Thomsen family. The 4 Cylinder Sedan Wide Bay Grand Prix was taken out by Blake Hancock, ahead of Bevan Burton and Paul Redman. The 4 Cylinders put on some great racing over the two nights. The Late Models made a return to Maryborough and Gavin Northfield took out an awesome feature race ahead of Frank Armstrong and Geoff Phillips. Maryborough Speedway roars back into life over the May long weekend with the V8 Dirt Modified "King of the Ring". Mighty Midget Speedcar Madness, is just about here. Posted 8th April, 2009 We are only days away from the 65th running the 2009 "Polar Ice" Queensland Midget Speedcar Title to be held at the Maryborough Speedway this Saturday and Sunday night.
Sydney's Mark Brown will be one of the red-hot favourites going into this weekend's 2009 "Polar Ice" Queensland Title The very best drivers in the country along with New Zealander Stevie Walsh are all vying to be crowned the new Queensland Champion. Maryborough Speedway hasn't hosted the Qld Midget Speedcar Title since 1993 when Stan Burrows was victorious on that occasion.
New Zealand Superstar Stevie Walsh has been in devastating form of late, so keep an eye on the "Kiwi Kid" this Saturday and Sunday night Heading into this weekend as one of the red hot favourites is Sydney's Mark Brown who has dominated the early part of the series winning the National Speedcar Super Series and more recently winning the 67th New South Wales Title in Lismore a month of so ago. Brown, who is the only driver to break into the 12 second bracket in a Midget Speedcar around Maryborough Speedway, is hoping to go one better this time round, after being narrowly beaten by teammate Harley Bishop in that memorable feature race in that round of the National Series back in November. Brown will also be keeping an eye on is arch rival, in Western Australian Dene McAllan who comes into this event in red hot form after winning a last few big shows including the Danny Davidson Memorial and the LJM held at Bunbury Speedway in Western Australia last Saturday night. McAllan, the highline specialist is hoping to become the first WA driver to win a Queensland Title. The Maryborough fans can only hope that Brown and McAllan get a chance to face off in the pole shuffle on Sunday night...
West Aussie Dene McAllan is one man on a mission, in his quest to become the first ever WA driver to win a Queensland Midget Speedcar Title Another man who has been having a solid run this season is Victoria Peter Ghent who makes the big journey up the East Coast take part this weekend. Ghent has finally got his Hawk powered Spike firing and is looking forward to finishing up the pointy end after the 35lap feature to be held on Sunday night. Another Sydney flyer who is magic behind the wheel, is Matt Young who on any given night is as good as chance at any to take out the win and pocket the $3500 first prize cheque. Throw in a fantastic list of Queensland drivers including Brock Dean (runner-up in this seasons National Series), Brendan Palmer, Grant Draney, Michael Harders, Michael George, Clayton Walker, John Davison and a whole host of others, this is going to be one of the biggest and best nights of Midget Speedcar racing that Maryborough Speedway has ever seen. The drivers will contest 3 rounds of heats on Saturday night, and then on Sunday night contest the final round of heats along with the always exciting top 8 pole shuffle, and the "Polar Ice" 35 lap Queensland Title feature race. Not only will fans get to see the Midget Speedcar Qld Title over the two nights of action, they will get to see the 24th running the Queensland Street Sedan Title. Close to 60 cars have nominated and close to 20 locals are all in the hunt to become the 2009 Queensland Champion. The entire field will be trying to take the number one of the defending Qld Champion Tim Atkin, who is hoping to become only the third person to win a Qld Street Sedan title back to back. The Street Sedans will also have 3 rounds of heats on Saturday night, and then return on Sunday night for the final round of qualifying heats, then will fight it out in the C, B and all important 40 lap Queensland Title. Along with Midget Speedcars and Street Sedans on Saturday night, the Super Street Sedans return for the Ford vs Holden Showdown. It will be good old fashioned match racing with 3 fords taking on 3 Holden's and you can expect war on the track on Saturday night. The 4 Cylinders will be contesting the Wide Bay Grand Prix over both Saturday and Sunday night. Sunday night sees the final qualifying heats and championship races for the Midget Speedcars and Street Sedans, but added to the program will be the Junior Sedans and the awesome V8 Late Models. These awesome V8 machines put on a fantastic show a month ago and can't wait to "turn up the heat" this Sunday night, when they give Maryborough fans another 'taste' of what is to come when they return in the new season with bigger numbers.
The awesome V8 Late Models return for only the second time on Sunday night and they are ready to "turn up the heat". Gates open both days at 1pm and racing will start at 4pm SHARP on Saturday and Sunday. As normal the FREE jumping castle is back for the kids and full bar and improved canteen facilities will be in operation. Admission prices (per night) will once again stay at the normal price, with Kids under 12 still FREE, Pensioners & Students only $18 and Adults only $22. A family pass (2 Adults & 2 Students) is only $55. So bring the family along for two fantastic nights of Queensland Title madness this Saturday and Sunday nights at the Maryborough Speedway. In the last three days, Maryborough has only had 1.8mm of rain. Even if we do get a few showers this afternoon, it won't stop practice from going ahead tonight. Just a reminder that the QSCA will be running transponders for all drivers that are interested in getting some data from there runs. Practice starts at 5pm and will finish around 9pm... Although only 5 or 6 cars will be at the track on Easter Sunday, you can be assured of plenty more ultra quick, super competitive Late Model racing. Practice - 4th April - next Saturday night Posted 26th March, 2009 The Maryborough Sporting Car Club will host another practice session at the Maryborough Speedway next Saturday night, 4th April, 2009. After practice has finished, the club will be holding the Calcutta for the Queensland Street Sedan Title, which will be great time sit back, have a few drinks and have a few laughs, before the serious stuff starts the following weekend. So come along and enjoy some practice and then you might pick up a bargain in the Qld Title Street Sedan Calcutta. The Calcutta will be run as per an auction were the highest bid will win that driver. We will be adding in a prize for last running car in the 'B' Main as well as last car running the 'A' Main, along with 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Qld Title. This should in courage plenty of bidding and an increased change of a solid return on your money. Anyone can bid on drivers in the Calcutta. The Maryborough club look forward to seeing plenty of faces next Saturday night. Mann, what a win... Posted 22nd March, 2009 Bryan Mann has raced home to win the Allweld Custom Race Trailers V8 Sprintcar Dash 4 Cash in front of over 3000 people. Mann was flying all night and was never troubled leading from flag to flag in the 30 lap feature race. With the newly laid race track, the racing was sensational with plenty of passing in all the heats and in the A Main. Peter Lack laid the Q58 over in the opening lap of the feature race and had to restart from the rear. Lack was flying on the high line making his way all the way to finish fifth. Darren Jensen finished in second position after starting from the fourth row. Pete Thorley finished third after crashing out in the Dash. Darryl Hodges finished fourth after having a great battle with Jensen and Thorley lap after lap after lap. James McFadden had a massive rollover in the opening heat race after his front wheel broke causing him to go into the a big rollover. While mid-rollover, McFadden was hit from below by Ronnie Barber. Both walked away okay, but both will be sore today. The Modified Productions where as fantastic as always with a action packed night of racing in the final round of the Fraser Coast Series. Mark Raymont took the win from Aidan Raymont with Jason Boss from Mackay finishing third. Glenn Pagel did enough to win the Fraser Coast Series from Aidan Raymont, Adrian Stott and Maryborough's Steve Thomsen. Hervey Bay's Paul Redman took out the 2009 Queensland Title with a comfortable win where he didn't put a foot wrong the entire night. Aussie Champ Charlie Brown took a trilling Junior Sedan A Main win after passing Hamish Redman on the last couple of laps to win yet again another feature race. With another race meeting done and dusted, the Maryborough Speedway now turns its attention towards the Easter long weekend where the Queensland Title for the Midget Speedcars and the Street Sedans will be held. Allweld Custom Race Trailer V8 Sprintcars "Dash 4 Cash" Posted 19th March, 2009 Are you ready? The wait is almost over, as over 30 of the very best V8 Sprintcars explode onto the Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night for the 2009 "Allweld Custom Race Trailers" V8 Sprintcar Dash 4 Cash.
The line up includes some of the biggest names in the business with Queensland Champ Pete Thorley, Terry Bracken, Ricky Mitchell, Brad Hilder, Darrell Hodges & Andrew Scheuerle, being joined by Peter Lack, James McFadden and Bryan Mann who are all returning to Queensland after a lengthy season on the road chasing the big shows throughout the Country. Another driver who is expected to do well is Darren Jensen who will be once again piloting the Titan machine, who is coming off his third feature win of the season at Brisbane International Speedway last weekend. A surprise nomination is former world 500cc Super bike legend and channel ten sports personality Daryl Beattie who will be contesting the event in the Phil Foster Q66 V8 Sprintcar. Although Beattie has only raced the race a handful of times, performed very well last weekend and only narrowly missed out on the A Main. Beattie is no stranger to competitive motorsport after years in the World 500cc Championship series. Beattie finished third in his first full time season in 1993 behind Kevin Schwantz and Wayne Rainey. 1995 was his best year where Beattie finished second to Mick Doohan, only finishing second after a fall ruined his series lead with only a handful of race meetings to go. Beattie now works as a part of the Channel ten Motorsports team and can be seen on RPM and all of channel ten's coverage of Moto GP. The Maryborough Speedway is very excited to have Daryl Beattie race this weekend, and if rumours are correct, the channel ten camera's might make a surprise appearance this Saturday night. If 30 plus V8 Sprintcars isn't enough, we have 27 Modified Productions nominated for the final round of the Fraser Coast Series. Series leader Glenn Pagel has a narrow lead coming into Saturday night, but has the likes of Adrian Stott, Steve Thomsen, Aussie Champ Todd Doyle and Cooroy brothers Mark & Aidan Raymont hot on his heels, he will have plenty of work to do, if he wants to bring home the Series win. 19 Four Cylinder Sedans will contest the Queensland Title and 23 Junior Sedans will make up the big, big program this Saturday night at the Maryborough Speedway. All the action gets underway at 4pm with V8 Sprintcars hitting the track for hotlaps around 5:30pm. Kids under 12 are still FREE to get in, and a full bar and numerous food outlets will be in operation. The pits will be opened up at the end of the night for free, and all V8 Sprintcar drivers will be on hand to sign autographs and they will also have plenty of give-aways and a great range of team merchandise on sale. This will be a massive night of Speedway, so get yourself along to the Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night.

Posted 13th March, 2009 Six Maryborough Junior Street Sedan drivers are off to Mothar Mountain Speedway in Gympie this weekend for the running of the 2009 Queensland Junior Street Sedan Title. The Maryborough club has never had a local Junior driver win a Qld Title, and this Saturday night we are a real good chance of changing that record when six of the best hit the track, flying the flag very high for the Maryborough club. Mitch Thomsen, Hamish Redman, Ryan Packer, Danielle Harris, Gary Harris Jnr and Kurt Murdoch are all looking forward to running the Qld Title, and from everyone in the Maryborough Sporting Car Club, we would like to wish them the very best luck. Brock Hallett wins Aussie Formula 500 Title Posted 9th March, 2009 Last night at Bordertown Speedway in South Australia, the 17 year old rookie sensation, Brock Hallett has raced home to win the 2009 Australian Formula 500 Championship. Hallett, hails from just up the road at Woodgate, has become a crowd favourite at the Maryborough Speedway, in only his second season of speedway racing. Brock started out of position four in the Australian Title feature race and was able to get to the lead and race away to become the youngest ever winner of the National Championship. Brock convincingly won the last feature race at Maryborough Speedway on the 31st January, beating home Qld rivals Wayne Moller, Nathan Pronger, Mick Pronger and Dale Shilleto, Dan Moes and Garry Hart. From everyone at the Maryborough Sporting Car Club we would like once again congratulate Brock Hallett on his awesome effort and we look forward to him returning to Maryborough Speedway on the May long weekend with the A1 on the top wing and tail tank for the 2nd annual running of the Queensland Formula 500 Nationals.

Wow.. what a night !!! Posted 1st March, 2009 Finally blue skies arrived for a Maryborough Speedway race meeting and wasn't it great to see the pits overflowing with competitors in the massive 45 event program. Another big crowd packed into the venue to watch some action packed racing in all the divisions. The Late Models put on a awesome display and have got Maryborough Speedway fans wanting them to come back for more, as these excellent pieces of machinerary, powered around the track at great speeds, constantly running 2 cars wide, lap after lap after lap. Geoff Phillips went on to win the final from Nick Girdlestone and Paul Carlish. Plans are already underway to schedule the Late Models on numerous occasions next season. The Queensland Compact Speedcar Title was a fantastic race with Steve Swingler taking out yet again another title, after a dominating performance in the 25 lap event. Rob Jackson finished second and Gary Hudson rounded out the top 3. Maryborough flyer Geoff Scott, finished his title campaign after hitting the main straight fence and rolling out of contention. The Litre Sprintcars once again put on some fantastic racing, right throughout the night and it was great to see 17 cars line up for the feature race. After an earlier problem which forced the home town hero, Scott Harth to the infield, Harth raced through the field to finish in fourth position in the shortened feature race. Toowoomba's Keith Blatch was awarded the win. The Street Sedan Mary 1000, was yet again another old style "bash em' up" with only a handle of cars going the 50 lap distance. 19 year old Jason Slade from the Sunshine Coast drove a faultless race to lead every single lap of the race to record his maiden senior feature race win. Hervey Bay's Sam Lack showed that the old Cortina has still got it as he powered on the finish second ahead of a fast finishing Russell Cowley, Paul Redman and Martin Ritchie. After finishing on top of the points, Jim Cowley accepted the "Steve's Dvds" Back of the Bus Challenge and started the feature race from position 24. Jim was up inside the top ten when the Commodore lost power sending him to the infield and out of the race. Wondai's Josh Harm won an entertaining Junior Street Sedan final from Hervey Bay's Ryan Packer and Kingaroy's Nathan Barbeler. All in all, the crowd enjoyed a very big night of action and now all attention turns to March 21st, when the V8 Sprintcars return to Maryborough Speedway for the "Dash 4 Cash". Will they take the Steve's Dvds "Back of the Bus Challenge" ??? Posted 26th February, 2009 Not only will the 60 Street Sedans line up for the Mary 1000 "the 50 lapper" this Saturday night, the top points scorer after the 3 rounds of heats, will have the opportunity to go to the "Back of the Bus" in the A Main and start from position 24. If they choose to accept, they will pocket a cool $500 which has been kindly sponsored by Maryborough's official DVD Team - Steve's Dvds. Steve & Tracey from "Steve's Dvds" have always been big supporters of the Maryborough Speedway and the Maryborough Sporting Car Club are very happy to have them on board as a sponsor this weekend. For those wishing to pre-purchase a copy of the meeting or grab a copy of a DVD from any of the meetings that you may have missed, you can do so by contacting Steve or Tracey on 0429 990 702.
SKM Motorsport head to Maryborough Posted 26th February, 2009 Press release courtesy of Oz Motorsport Promotions
ABOVE :
Neil Wallace behind the wheel of the SKM Motorsport # 97 Rocket Dirt
Late Model.
"It was disappointing to be 15 minutes away from the track last weekend only for the meeting to be rained out, so when the invitation came down the line from Paul Carlish asking us to go and compete with the Queensland Late Model Racers at Maryborough this weekend we jumped at the opportunity" said SKM Motorsport Team Principal and Driver Neil Wallace from the team’s Port Macquarie base. "I’ve been to Maryborough to watch racing in the past, and it’s a terrific facility. The track looks really good, so hopefully the Queensland guys and the SKM Motorsport Team can put on a great show for the fans". "Yes, it’s a long way to travel, however everyone involved with SKM Motorsport wants to see the Late Model division continue to expand and develop, even if that means spending a considerable amount of time and resources on attending race meetings at distant tracks" "The Queensland racers have been supporting the NSW shows, so it’s a good opportunity for us to return the favour" said Wallace "A few of the Queensland Late Model Racers recently turned some practice laps at Maryborough and put down some very impressive times". The Late Models although very big in America (bigger then Sprintcars in some states) are in its early stages of development up here in Queensland. They are establish now in Sydney and Perth, but are on the build up here in there first season in Queensland. Speedway people all over the world are talking about Late Models being the next biggest thing in Speedway.
Maryborough Speedway fans will get there first taste of this awesome V8 class when 8-10 drivers will "turn it on" in there first official Queensland race meeting this season. Late Models are bigger, faster, lighter & more affordable (as these are the exact same spec as the Late Models in America) then Super Sedans and at the last practice meeting, they absolutely set the track alight with lap times in the low 13 second bracket.
Late Models run a big V8 motor (no restrictions) most of them are all over 400 cubic inch, with the only rule being 2 valves per cylinder and must run a 4 barrel carby. No supercharges or turbo's etc. They are left hand drive cars and have the most amazing suspension set underneath them which allows them to get all the horsepower to the ground and still beagle to fly through the corners running two and three cars wide. A lot of people are excited about having the Late Models at Maryborough Speedway on the 28th February. Make sure you can say, you where at the first ever Late Model race meeting in Maryborough...
Rain wins in Rocky !!! Posted 15th February, 2009 The freight train of competitors are on the way home from Rockhampton after rain prevented any racing to occur in the 2009 Qld Junior Sedan Title and the 2009 Four Cylinder Sedan Title. It was a real shame from everyone involved, as even practice on Friday got washed out, and after not being able to race on Saturday night, they even tried to run the event this morning (Sunday), however Rockhampton club deemed the pits and surrounding areas too wet as was the track as it was unable to be prepared. While Junior and Four cylinder competitors are heading home, the state body and the Rockhampton club are busily trying to set a new date for the re-run of the Qld Titles. Photos from last Saturday's Practice Night Posted 13th February, 2009 Here is a quick look at some great photos taken from the Practice Meeting held last Saturday. Posted 8th February, 2009 A staggering 70 cars lined the pits for tonight's practice session which saw some fantastic action on track. Not a cloud in the sky made for a beautiful night at the Maryborough Speedway. Over 15 Modified Productions turned up for the practice and didn't they find some speed throughout the night. Eight V8 Super Sedans fronted as did three V8 Late Models that made the journey to Maryborough and it was great to see the 410 cubic inch race cars put on a great display. The pits also had Super Streets, Street Sedans, Compact Speedcars, NOS Sprints, Junior Streets, Junior Sedans, AMCA's, Nostalgia Sedans, Formula 500's, Mod Lites and even a few Vintage Midgets. It was a great night and the entire team would like to thank all the drivers and teams that supported the practice meeting. It is obvious that these nights are a huge success and something that our club will continue to do, periodically during the season. Latimer wins a thriller and lap records tumble Posted 1st February, 2009 Darren Latimer has raced home to win the opening round of the Roosters Cup in a nail biting finish with American Jimmy Phelps finishing in second. Former Aussie Champ Andrew Pezzutti rounded the podium, in what was another awesome night of V8 Dirt Modified racing. The heat racing was amazing with plenty of side by side racing and drivers running up on the boards. Peter Britten put his name into the record books by breaking the old lap record of 13.186 seconds (previously held by Tim Morse), with a new time of 12.969 seconds. The lap records didn't stop there with Scott Thomsen going under the old lap record held by Jason Slade (16.402 seconds), but he would only hold it for one race, as Queensland Champion Tim Atkin bettered it down to the new mark of 16.197 seconds. But it was Hervey Bay's Frank Packer who showed a clean set of heels to comfortably win the feature race from Jim Cowley and Hervey Bay's Josh Arthur finishing third in the drive of the night, after coming second in the B Main and starting the feature race from position 20th. Maryborough's Mitch Thomsen continued his good form to race home and win the Junior Street Sedan feature race. In doing so, Thomsen set a new lap record for Junior Street Sedans with a 16.573 second lap. Josh Harm finished second and Brad Jennings had a great drive through the field to finish third. The Nostalgia Sedans turned up the wick with an extremely entertaining feature race that saw a bit of biff and barge and plenty of action. Cyril Bates took the lead on the final lap to win the feature race from Steven Barsby and John Watson. Woodgate's teenage sensation Brock Hallet won and action packed Formula 500 feature race from 18year old lady racer Kristin Brown ahead of Nathan Pronger. Maryborough's Dan Moes made a welcome return to racing to win Round 6 of the Qld stampede Series and also win the hard charger award for passing the most cars in the feature. Gary Edwards, Barry Gibbs and Garry Hart all had nights they would rather forget after ending there nights in the "up side down club". For the 1500 people that braved the very ordinary conditions, they where treated to an another excellent night of Speedway action. Maryborough Speedway hosts a practice night next Saturday night, but returns for racing on 28th February for the running of the Qld Compact Speedcar Title. |
