Fireworks & V8 Super Sedans are back this Saturday

Posted 15th April 2007

The roar of the V8 Super Sedans are back this Saturday night when the AS Concrete Pumping Division One Series comes to Maryborough.

The "big guns" will battle it out for valuable points in the second last round of the series.  The night will also double as the second last round of the Ian Boettcher Nissan Develop Super Sedan Series.

Supporting the 20+ V8 Super Sedans this Saturday will be the Super Street Sedans who have their final hit out before the Qld Title to be held at Maryborough in May.  The Super Streets have nominated in excellent numbers with around 20 nominated for the meeting.

The night will also see the return of the Skyward Entertainment, who will put on one massive fireworks show.  If you missed their last show at the ASCF Junior Title, you missed a show that was described by many as "best fireworks seen, outside Brisbane".  Skyward Entertainment have got some brand new fireworks and effects that they are looking forward to "showing off", this Saturday night.

As the seasons draws closer to the end, the Club Championship for the Street Sedans and QSCA Junior Streets intensifies.  Quality fields have nominated in all divisions so it will be a cracker of a meeting.

All the racing action starts at 4pm, with Main Gates opening at 2pm.  The pit gates will open at midday.  As always the fantastic food will be in operation at the canteen and the bar will also be open.

Make sure you make tracks to Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night for a sensational night of Speedway action.

McLeod wins Formula 500 Championship

Posted 9th April 2007

Ben McLeod has raced home to win the 2007 Australian Formula 500 Championship held over the Easter weekend.

The young Victorian was very happy with his win and was stuck for words at the post race presentation held on the infield.  McLeod came into the championship as last years runner-up and started the final from pole and was never troubled as he crossed the first.  Fellow Victorian Tim Rankin finished in second with the popular New south Welshmen Steve Caunt, finishing in third.   Chad Sullivan finished in fourth with the current Queensland Champion Nathan Pronger finishing in fifth.

Maryborough's Alan Gimson and Dan Moes finished the final in 7th and 8th with Dale Shilleto having a win in the Consolation final after a weekend he would rather forget, after rolling while leading in his second heat and then breaking a gearbox in his final heat race.  Hervey Bay's Ben Dorset finished fourth in the Consolation final.

The weekend was filled with plenty of great racing and plenty of spills.  Dale Shilleto, Ben Devlin, Mick Pronger, Barry Gibbes, Mal Copper and Barry McCulloch all rolled over.

In the Modified Litre Sprintcar Qld Title Brad Hilder was able to win and defend his Queensland Championship.  Maryborough star Scott Harth, finished in second with Sid Whittaker rounding out the podium.  Bernie Clark, David Fuller and Wayne Iacono all finished their weekend by entertaining the crowd with separate roll-overs.

The Super Street final was won by Aidan Raymont who was driving the Kyle Greaves Falcon.  Andy Roberts finished second with Lee Steffens coming home in third.  Kane Heidke had a massive roll-over on Saturday night where his Cortina hit the fence in the main straight and then went into a series of violent barrel rolls.  Kane walked away unhurt and then return with a repair car for the Sunday night.

Maryborough finished with a trifecta in the QSCA Junior Street Sedans with Mitch Thomsen beating home Samuel Cordie and Hamish Redman.  The ASCF Juniors had Brisbane's David Clark winning the feature from Michael Francis from Jayden Peacock.

The Division one Street Sedan Challenge was won by Maryborough's Chris Elliot ahead of Russell Cowley and Craig Franz.  Division two was also won by another local, Gary Harris who held Bjorn Ahlstrom and young Trent Humphries at bay.

The Easter meeting was a huge success and the Maryborough Speedway will be back in action in two weeks when the V8 Super Sedans come to town on April 21.

Can we Camp ???

Posted 3rd April 2007

Camping will be allowed on the Maryborough Speedway grounds, however it will be done outside the pit area and at your own risk.  The Showers and toilets in the grounds will be opened to be used by campers from approx. 6am in the morning.  The complex and the pits will be locked at midnight each night and no one under any circumstances will be allowed back into the pits until the caretaker opens the gates in the morning.

We would like to allow you all to camp inside the grounds, however some people at previous events have wrecked it for the rest of us.

Super Streets to run this weekend

Posted 2nd April 2007

Due to the Super Streets being cancelled at Toowoomba this weekend, the Maryborough Speedway has added them to the program for this weekend.

What a massive weekend it will be with 50 of the very best Formula 500 ready and raring to go for the 2007 Australian Formula 500 Championship.  Throw in the Queensland Title for the Litre Sprintcars and the Super Streets, Street Sedans division 1 and 2 contesting the Street Sedan Challenge, ASCF Juniors and the QSCA Junior Street Sedans, this weekend will be a cracker of a meeting.

For those unfamiliar with Formula 500's they are super quick purpose built speedway machines that run either a 500 cc 2 stroke or a 600 cc 4 stroke in a smaller version of a Sprintcar.  Formula 500's are the second quickest speedway division behind V8 Sprintcars and lap the Maryborough circuit in 12.5 seconds to 13.5 seconds.  They are extremely fast, close and very entertaining.

Practice for the Formula 500 and Litres will be on Friday from 5pm and entry is FREE.  Racing gets under way both nights at 4pm with Formula 500's on track from around 515pm-5:30pm.  Gates open at 2pm both days and a discounted 2 night pass will be available for purchase at the gate on Saturday.

A full canteen and bar will be operation and the FREE jumping castle is back for the children.

Make sure you get to Maryborough Speedway this weekend where will we crown the 2007 Australian Formula 500 Championship.

"50" of the best for the Australian Formula 500 Championship

Posted 29th March 2007

Fifty of the best drivers in the country have nominated for the Australian Formula 500 Championship to be held at Maryborough next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The nomination list is headed by the Australian Champ, Ben Devlin who has made the long trip over from Port Kennedy in WA.  Joining him from the west is former Aussie Champ Matt Brown who will be one to keep an eye on over the weekend.

Australian #2, Ben McLeod all the way up from Terang, Victoria is looking forward to a strong showing.  Also venturing up from Victoria is Australia #3, Tim Rankin who has been in red hot form and comes into the Championship with plenty of momentum.

All the visitors are looking forward to taking on the local hopes of Dan Moes, Alan Gimson, Dale Shilleto and Ben Dorset along with the Bundaberg father and son duo of Mick and Nathan Pronger.  In the 42 years that the Australian Formula 500 Title has be contested, only 2 Queenslanders have ever tasted the sweets of success and one of those is Mick Pronger who won the title back in 1991/92 down in Wagga, NSW.

With the quality of drivers that we have in Queensland this is as good as chance as ever to have a Queenslander if not a local win the 43rd Australian Formula 500 Championship.

"The Boss" puts on a cracker show

Posted 26th March 2007

Click here to view a short video of one of Brett Steven's awesome burnouts.  Thanks again to Hyperformance Videos for providing the video.

In front of a crowd of over 1000 people, Brett "the boss" Stevens put on 3 awesome shows last night at Maryborough Speedway during the "Bay Central Tavern" Burnout Bonanza.

Stevens performed in his 2500 hp BA Falcon Ute which left everyone's ears ringing and probably was heard by everyone in Maryborough as he completed some of the best burnouts ever seen at Maryborough Speedway.

Brett Stevens final show to end the night was spectacular to say the least.  As he put plenty of rubber on the pad, Stevens engine erupted into flames.  Being the showman that he is.  He got from the car and stood on the his Ute and asked the crowd if they wanted more.  With the engine still on fire, "The Boss" continued his show until the engine blew completely up.  As he got from the Ute the appreciative crowd roared.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank Brett Stevens and his Jack Daniels racing team for coming to Maryborough for the "Bay Central Tavern" Burnout Bonanza.

Short Videos have been added for viewing

Brett Stevens is coming this Saturday night

Posted 19th March 2007

This Saturday night the "Bay Central Tavern" in Hervey Bay proudly presents the "Bay Central Tavern" Burnout Bonanza.

Following is a media release from Brett Stevens. Visit him at www.brettstevensracing.com.

"THE BOSS" TO STAR AT MARYBOROUGH SPEEDWAY BURNOUT BONANZA

Australian Drag Racing Champion Brett 'The Boss' Stevens will be making a trip to the Fraser Coast region of Queensland with his Jack Daniel's Racing team on the 24th March to lay some rubber down at the Maryborough Speedways Burnout Bonanza.

Stevens will be the special guest and star attraction at the event and will be performing his famous tyre frying burnout display in his custom-built 2500 horsepower Jack Daniel's Racing Falcon Burnout Ute, where he will go through a complete set of Drag Racing slicks in a single show.

Taking a break between rounds of the National Drag Racing Championship Series, he hopes to tear apart the Speedways burnout pad in the show, which is a must see demonstration for all motoring fans.

"I am coming up to Maryborough with my team to let loose with some donuts and to make sure the crowd has a good time, it will definitely be a display that the fans will not forget in a hurry," Stevens said.

"There will be plenty of horsepower, smoke, burning rubber and noise as I give my Jack Daniel's Racing Burnout Ute a real work out, so if you like these make sure you get down to the show."

"I will also have the teams 3000 horsepower Top Doorslammers on display for the crowds to have a look over."

"I really love coming to events like these, without the pressures and stress of a race meet I can relax a little and meet some of the locals that usually don't get to see professional motorsport teams."

Stevens is one of Australia's leading Drag Racers and is the only person in the world to compete in three professional Group 1 Drag Racing brackets simultaneously (Top Doorslammer, Top Bike and Top Alcohol).

Some of his recent Drag Racing accomplishments include winning the 2004 Australian Top Doorslammer and the 2005 Australian Top Bike Championships, member of the Australian Motorcycle Hall of Fame, holder of the quickest Australian Harley record with quarter mile run of 6.4 seconds, as well as various other records and titles.

Stevens and the team will also be making a special guest appearance at the pre event "Burnout Party" at the Bay Central Tavern in Harvey Bay on Friday 23rd March from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

Lack brings home the money

Posted 19th March 2007

Peter Lack has raced home to win the "Packer Waste Water Systems" V8 Sprintcar Showdown last night at Maryborough Speedway in one of the best nights of Sprintcar racing ever seen in the Wide Bay.

In front of an excellent crowd of well over 3000 people, the V8 Sprintcars turned up with an awesome field of 28 cars and certainly put on a fantastic nights racing.  The heat racing was fast and furious with heat wins going to Andrew Scheuerle, Brad Hilder (x2), Anthony Vanderreyden, Paul Gislingham and Peter Lack.  With the heats providing plenty of action but Bryan Mann was the only casualty after hitting the fence at the start of heat 6 which caused the Lusty Low Loaders Q16 to go into a series of barrel rolls on the main straight.  Bryan walked away unhurt and the crew was successfully able to repair the damage and get Mann out for the A main.

The Dash was taken out by Andrew Scheuelre who once again looked super fast around the Maryborough Speedway.  The B Main lined up with a full field of 16 competitors and Darren Jensen smoked the field and was able to stay out of harms way, which couldn't be said for Mark Pholi, Melissa Boyes and Paul Rooks who all crashed out all in separate incidents.

Sixteen of the best drivers in the state lined up for the "Packer Waste Water Systems" V8 Sprintcar Showdown which included the likes of Wanless, Scheuerle, Jensen, Wright, Mann, Muir, Morgan, Thorley just to name a few.  The race got under way and Pete Thorley race away to an early lead to have it all come to disaster when Dan Murray, Ronnie Barber, Adrian O'Connell and Craig Stevenson crashed in turn two, which blocked the entire track leaving Thorley no where to go and causing him to come to a stop.  This meant that he would have to go the back of the field at the restart.  At the restart Andrew Scheuerle got the jump but this is where things got interesting as Peter Lack got along side Scheuerle and the two raced side by side in and intense battle of 1st positions.   Lack was running around the fence and Scheuerle was down on the pole line and they changed positions on numerous occasions.  Lack finally got the extra drive that he wanted and was able to keep Scheuerle behind him.  Meanwhile, Darren Jensen and David Muir also decided to go the boards and then found plenty of speed around the outside.  Both where able to make up considerable positions.  As the laps counted down Muir and Jensen both started to close in on Peter Lack, but Lack was first passed the post to take out the "Packer Waste Water Systems" V8 Sprintcar Showdown.  David Muir fresh from his assault on World Series Sprintcars, came home in front of Darren Jensen.

Click here for a short video of Lack's win (courtesy of Hyperformance Video's)

All drivers paid tribute to the Maryborough Sporting Car Club and for the fantastic track, facilities and hospitality and all are looking forward to returning on numerous occasions in the 2007/2008 season.

The Formula 500's also put on a great night of racing which was the final hit out before the Australian Title to be held at Maryborough over the Easter weekend.  The night was also the final round of the South Queensland Formula 500 Stampede Series.  Dan Moes raced home to win the feature race from Mick Pronger and Kenny Newton.  But it was Maryborough's Dale Shilleto who was victorious, as he took out the South Qld Formula 500 Stampede Series with another solid and consistent performance last night.   Nathan Pronger had a night he would rather forget after rolling his PRT Racetec while running well in the feature race.

Darren Dillion stepped back into his Compact Speedcar last night and was able to win the Compact Speedcar Wide Bay Cup.  Wayne Corbett finished in the second with Lismore's Warren King coming home in third.  Kev Titman once again dazzled the crowd with a spectacular exit from the final as he rolled over in turn four.

The Dwarf Cars returned to Maryborough Speedway and didn't disappoint the big crowd. The drivers and their little machines turned some great laps and provided yet again some great, close racing.  Matt Greenbury continued his good home to win the feature race from Scott Lehfeldt and Peter Rodgers.

For the first time since the Australian Title, the ASCF Juniors fronted with a good field of 10 - 17 year olds.  Although the juniors are so young, they put on some fantastic door to door racing and did themselves very proud.  Brisbane flyer, Kristin Brown took the win from fellow Brisbane youngster Justin Smith ahead of Kingaroy hot shot Nathan Francis.

When the meeting finished an estimated crowd of appox. 1000 people filled the pits and to get autographs from their favourite Sprintcar drivers and witness the winged warriors up close and personal.  Those scenes are normally associated with professional Rugby League and AFL teams.

All in all, the night was a huge success and by the amount of people that attended the night it is safe to assume that V8 Sprintcars are at hit in the Heritage City.

Thanks again to "Packer Waste Water Systems" for their support of the V8 Sprintcars.

The next meeting in only 7 days away when the Bay Central Tavern present the Burnout Bonanza this Saturday night featuring Brett 'the boss' Stevens and his 2500 hp Falcon Ute.  Burnouts start at 3pm with gates opening from 1pm.

Are you ready ???

Posted 15th March 2007

In only 2 sleeps the Fraser Coast will witness some of Australia's best V8 Sprintcar drivers battle it out at the Maryborough Speedway.

Some of the Sprintcar drivers have been talking up there chances of being the first driver to get into the 10 second bracket at the super fast Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night.

All the action starts from 4pm with the early racing, but the winged warriors will take to the track for hotlaps, time trials and heats from around 5:30pm.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club has doubled the grandstands at venue and the entire back straight has been terraced and turfed, so everyone will get a great view of all the sensational action.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club is very pleased to announce that Packer Waster Water Systems has come onboard as Major Sponsor for the upcoming V8 Sprintcar Meeting to be held on 17th March.

Packer Waster Water Systems is a local company that specialises in New Septic Tank installs, Rubble pits and treatment plants.  If you need something done you can call Frank Packer on 4124 0767.

Once again the Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank Packer Waste Water Systems for coming onboard as major sponsor of the Massive V8 Sprintcar meeting.  The night will be a must see for all open wheel fans with Speedcars, Compacts, Formula 500's, Dwarf Cars and ASCF Juniors all supporting the round of the MSAQ series for the V8 Sprintcars.

Great time had by all, at Maryborough Speedway

Posted 25th February 2007

A big crowd of over 1500 filled the newly terraced back straight and packed the new grand stands and witness a fantastic night of "wheel rubbing, panel thumbing" tin top racing.

The Modified Productions dazzled the crowd who witness some of Australia's leading drivers in action.  The heats where action packed with plenty of fast racing and a bit of biff and barge.  With the track allowing for racing up near the fence, which allowed for heaps of passing.

Steve Price drove an excellent race to win Round 6 of the HDS Modified Production Series.  The NSW champ Michael Hally came home in second in front of the RX7 of Garry Maroske.  Modified Productions are truly outstanding to watch and the Maryborough Sporting Car Club is looking forward to hosting them back in Maryborough on June 16 for the Modified Production "Dash 4 Cash".

The Super Streets didn't disappoint, and Maree from Sea FM got the ride of her life as the car she was in wasn't only caught up in one crash but three all in the first heat.  Tune in to 101.9 tomorrow morning as she was micro-phoned up and recorded as she raced in the car.  Should be interesting listening.  The Super Street A Main was taken out by Steve Cook, from Jeff Peacock and Lee Steffens.

Maryborough's Chris Elliot continued his good form to win the Division one Street Sedan feature race from Craig Franz and Neil Harm.  The action was red hot in the division two feature race with a pair of 17 year old lads finishing one, two.  Brett Baxter and Trent Humphries who last month contested the QSCA Junior Street Sedan title have settled in nicely to the senior ranks. Baxter beat home Humphries with Bjorn Ahlstrom finishing in third.

Mitch Thomsen drove the wheels off the BA Falcon to win his first ever feature race in the QSCA Junior Street Sedans.  Mitch finished ahead of Sam Cordie and Jayme Franklin.

Cyril Bates won the Nostalgia Sedan final from the fast finishing Tony Gablonski and Kerry Usher.

The Maryborough Speedway only has a 3 week break before the almighty V8 Sprintcars return to Maryborough for a monstrous night of open wheel speedway action on March 17th.

Get set for a massive night of Speedway action

Posted 22nd February 2007

Although the last few weeks has seen a bit of rain around the area, the Maryborough Speedway is set and ready to go for a massive night of over 6 hours of non stop sensational Speedway action this Saturday night.

The Mighty Modified Productions are pumped and ready to set the place alight, as the battle for the HDS Series intensifies with only 2 rounds to go.  It's anybodies guess who will win the A Main this Saturday, but one thing you can count on is some of the closest wheel rubbing, panel thumping tin top action every seen on the super fast Maryborough track.  With the likes of Hally, Doyle, Raymont, Pagel and a whole host of others the racing will be simply outstanding.

The Super Street Sedans have an excellent car count and once again will "rip in" and biff and barge their way to victory lane.  Maree from the SEA FM morning crew is certainly getting nervous as she will be thrown in the deep end, as she will sit passenger with Hervey Bay's Kyle Greaves.  Kyle is looking forward to giving the co-host of the Breakfast radio show, a night to remember and she will be hooked up to a voice recorder, that SEA FM will play on Monday morning (if it isn't too bad).

The club championship for the Street Sedans is starting to heat up with the chase for as many points as possible.  The visitors will have something to say, about letting the locals taking all the chocolates, so anything is possible in the division one and two Street Sedans.

The ever popular QSCA Junior Street Sedans are back again to entertain and a big field have nominated which will no doubt trill and maybe spill.  The newly crowned Queensland Champ, Brandon O'Keefe is keen to keep his hot form continue, but will have plenty of contenders ready to beat the Q1.

Rounding out the massive night will be the Nostalgia Sedans, which are always great to watch the FJ Holden's from yester-year back under the lights and running around like the did, all those years ago.

With over 45 events on the card the racing will start at 4pm Sharp and don't forget to bring a tarp, chair or blanket to sit on, as the grass hasn't grown back on the newly terraced back straight.  If the ground doesn't grab your fancy, then why not try out one of the many grandstands that are located around the complex.  A FREE jumping castle for the children will be in operation and ever popular canteen and food vans will be in full operation.  The bar will be open also, but don't forget that no Alcohol or Glass can be brought into the speedway grounds.

45 events + 6 hours of action = "One of the best nights out, imaginable".

See you Saturday...

"Bay Central Tavern" Burnout Bonanza

Posted 20th February 2006

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club is very pleased to announce that the Bay Central Tavern on Boat Harbour Drive in Hervey Bay, has come onboard as Major sponsor for the Burnout Bonanza to be held on 24th March, featuring none other then Brett "the boss" Stevens.

The Bay Central Tavern will play post the Burnout Bonanza Pre - Party when Brett Stevens himself will be at the Tavern with his transporter and Burnout Ute for a Party on the Balcony on Friday 23rd March starting at 3pm.  The night will give the fans to get up close and personal with one of the biggest burnout stars in Australia.  "The Boss" will be there to sign autographs and display his Ute and massive transporter.  The big screen will be in action with footage of "The Boss" turning it on at other venues.  The night will also have plenty of give-aways and raffles and we will auction off a "Ride of a Lifetime" in Brett Stevens 2500 Hp Burnout Ute during the Burnout Bonanza on the Saturday Night while completing one of his insane burnout expression sessions.

Stay tuned for details, but make sure you mark it in your diary, and we will see you on Friday 23rd March at the Bay Central Tavern, the only place to be.

35 Modified Productions coming to town

Posted 19th February 2006

The stage is set for a massive night of Modified Production racing when round six of the HDS Series comes to town with 35 of the best drivers from Queensland and New South Wales.

Sitting second in the series, Michael Hally heads the nomination list and after successfully defending his NSW #1 last weekend in Nowra, he will be one of to watch come Saturday night.  He will have plenty of competition from the current Qld Champ Todd Doyle who always performs well on the super fast Maryborough circuit.  Series leader is a man that needs no introduction and has probably done the most laps around Maryborough then any other driver in the field, is Greg Raymont.  Raymont is extremely keen to win this round and keep a margin between him and the rest of the field.

It will be a massive night with around 110 cars nominated for the night. The support program on the night is Super Streets, Street Sedans division one and two, QSCA Junior Street Sedans and Nostalgia Sedans.  Racing starts at 4pm SHARP and don't forget to bring a chair, tarp or blanket to sit on if sitting on the back straight hill.

This Saturday will also feature Maree from the Sea FM morning crew who will be sitting passenger in the Super Streets after losing battle of the sexes on SEA FM's morning radio show.

Once again the free jumping castle will be in operation for the kids and as always a full bar and canteen will be operational along with the food van in the pits and on the back straight.

Make sure you get along to Maryborough Speedway this Saturday for a sensational night of wheel rubbing panel thumping "Tin Top" action.

Big night planned for this Saturday Night

Posted 18th February 2006

Round 6 of the HDS Modified Production series is set to roar this Saturday and we have over 35 nominations for this Saturday night.

Just a reminder to all spectators and drivers that the racing starts at 4pm SHARP. It will be a massive night with over 45 events on the program and so the night runs smoothly and well, we won't be having a grand parade.

We look forward to making this early start a huge success and making it work for everyone.

See you Saturday night.

Grand stands finished

Posted 18th February 2006

After another day in the sun and then rain, over 20 hard working club members, volunteered time to help the club build and erect more grand stands.  Today's effort has seen the club build 5 more 6.5m grandstands, that are 5 levels high.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank everyone that helped out today and for making the new grandstands a reality.

The club would also like to remind everyone that the back straight has also been terraced and if you are planning to sit on the back straight, make sure you bring chairs, blankets or tarps to sit on as the grass will take a while to grow back.

Sunday's Working Bee another huge success

Posted 11th February 2006

Another day has been spent further more improving the Maryborough Speedway complex.  The day was spent building the frames for the 10 more grandstands.

We where able to build all frames, which allows us to put them together and attach the timber and we will then have double the grandstand capacity at Maryborough Speedway.

Thanks to the following people for their efforts today at the track, Steve Barsby, Daryn Brims, Martie & Dan Ritchie, Brad Coase, Ryan Harris, Brad Carter, Gary Harris, Shane Skene, Scott & Brodie Thomsen, Kev the caretaker and Petrina and Dana Brims for a wonderful BBQ lunch.

Maree from The Sea FM Morning Crew, set for night at Speedway

Posted 5th February 2006

Those familiar with the Sea FM Morning Crew will know that daily they run a battle of the sexes competition.  The winning gets to set the other gender a dare or unusual task.  This time the boys have won and they have set Maree (of the Morning Crew) the task to sit passenger for the night in a flying Super Street Sedan at the next speedway on February 24.

Although a little nervous, Maree is some what looking forward to the experience.  She did say on air today that she had a worry that she was going to end up rolling over or crashing into the fence.... So we will have to wait and see what happens.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club is very excited to have 101.9 Sea FM onboard for the upcoming meeting and we looking forward to seeing how she enjoys her ride of a life time come February 24.  You can tune in daily to the Sea FM Morning Crew on 101.9 between 6am and 9am (Monday - Friday).

NASR Safety Training Day - 18th March

Posted 1st February 2006

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club in conjunction with NASR are pleased to announce the upcoming NASR safety Training Day to be held at Maryborough Speedway on Sunday, 18th March, 2007.

The day is open to anyone that is interested to attend and learn the skills.  The club will be running a BBQ for lunch.  Make sure you bring a chair and pens and paper.

Here is a bit about NASR Safety Training Day:-

NASR National Safety Officer David Higgins has done a wonderful job in assisting NASR in the area of risk management by conducting various NASR Safety Seminars around the country. David is a qualified Paramedic with over 17 years experience with in Speedway, Formula 1, Champ Cars, V8 Supercars and Targa Tasmania. His continual enthusiasm for improving work practices and rescue procedures at Australian Speedway's is a credit to him and a great benefit to our sport.

Higgins learnt how important it is to be prepared the hard way when he saved John Cross from a burning Sprintcar at the now defunct Newcastle Motordrome in 1998. “I don’t believe we (the Newcastle safety team) were prepared for what we found in 1998 and we all agreed that instead of being critical to learn form our mistakes, how do we fix them. That is what gave me the motivation to go away and start an initial safety seminar at Newcastle.”

Unbeknown to Higgins, David Lander and Sue Gibson (Newcastle promoters) invited NASR founder John Hughes to the seminar. “I had no idea who NASR was or who John Hughes was. This nice, polite, well dressed man was in the crowd along with 70 other people and at the end he came up and introduced himself and said ‘we like what we have seen today, can we take it in to our sport on a national basis."

“We have had over 20 NASR Safety seminars now and there has been an excess of 1000 officials trained so I think that is a major step forward. All the work I have done is voluntary and I would not change that. I believe you have to give something back to the sport. This weekend was sensational; to be in a room with a group of people with the qualifications and expertise of this level can only make the sport go ahead. My work involves dealing with a situation when is occurs, the 5 P’s: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. So if you have your house in order and your equipment in order and have good motivated, well trained, equipped people, when an incident occurs that’s when we step up,” said Higgins.

NASR Members and interested parties are invited to attend a NASR Safety Training Seminar that are held a various locations across the country. All groups involved in speedway event management are encouraged to attend, including track operators, stewards, officials, drivers and safety crews.

All participants will be involved in the morning presentations, while the safety teams will break into their relevant track groups for practical exercises in the afternoon. An administrative session will also be held in the afternoon for track operators, stewards and other officials. The Seminar's provide a fantastic opportunity to improve awareness and skills with activities including practical exercises on vehicle extrication techniques and fire fighting. All participants will be given a National Certificate of Participation and a NASR Safety Team patch in recognition of attending the day.

Stay tuned for more details about the day as they are released and how you can register for the seminar.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club is keen to make sure that their safety crew becomes one of the best going around and having this event the day after the V8 Sprintcar will allow us to have everything from Sprintcars, Modified Productions, Juniors and Formula 500's so you will be able to learn how to deal with a wide variety of speedway race cars.

Paul Redman is the new Qld 4 cylinder sedans Champion

The following drivers represented our club very well and we would like to congratulate them on an outstanding result, although not coming home with the big trophies.  Steve Thomsen, Richard Brosnan, Keryn Goodwin, Travis Hutchinson, Glenn Richters and Tracey Panton.

Brandon O'Keefe Win Qld Junior Title

Posted 21st January 2006

Brandon O'Keefe survived the carnage to win last nights Queensland QSCA Junior Street Sedan Title.  In a night of trills, spills and plenty of carnage, Brandon O'Keefe brought his beautifully presented falcon home in front of the field of Juniors.  O'Keefe started the final in position five, but the leaders took themselves out when while lapping through back markers.  Baxter, defending champion Slade, Max Clarke and Mitch Thomsen (wrong place at the wrong time), all tangled up in turn four with only a handful of laps to go which opened the door for O'Keefe to come home in front of Ben Rossow, Rema Pooley and Maryborough drivers, Sam Cordie and Danielle Harris.

Brandon O'Keefe wins the Qld QSCA Junior Title

Australian Compact Champion, Danny Stainer showed why he is the very best going around in the Compacts, as he smashed the field in the Queensland Compact Speedcar Title and defend his title and go back to back.  Stainer was never troubled beat home Steve Swingler, Wayne Corbett and Darren Vine.

Danny Stainer goes back to back in Qld Compact Title

The Bay City Marine / Redman's Radiator Exhaust Super Street Stampede had everything and it was Rockhampton's Anthony Gaunt who crossed the line in first in front of Steve Cook and 3 time Qld Champ, Darryl Etherden.  The action all night from the Super Streets was wheel to wheel and full of action.

The Formula 500's returned for a last minute hit out and didn't they put on an awesome show.  Dan Moes showed some great form and was clocked completed a lap around the super fast Maryborough track in 12.9 seconds.  Hugh Thomsen made a return to racing after numerous seasons off and it all ended in tears as he had a big roll over in heat two.  He was okay, but not much couldn't be said about the state of his rear engine car.  Due to earlier carnage and the massive 40 event calendar, the Formula 500's couldn't run their feature race.

Street Sedans Division one and two both entertained with some sit down and hold on racing which saw plenty of cars destroyed after some massive crashes.  Amongst all the destruction, the street sedans turned some great lap times and provide very close and competitive racing.  the Division two final was taken out by Sunshine Coast driver David Kent, with Bjorn Ahlstrom finishing in second in front of 17 year old lady racer, Tegan Jennings.  The Division one was also not able to be run due to the curfew.

All in all the meeting was a huge success and was enjoyed by a good sized crowd.  The free jumping castle proved very popular with the kids and the extra food van was a hit on the back straight.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank all the people that hung around and stayed till the end last night and at the same time apologise for the late finish.

Preparations have started for the next massive night of Tin Top action when the HDS Modified Production Series comes to town in big numbers for the 24th February meeting.  That meeting will start at 4pm, so we make sure we still have plenty of racing, plenty of action and still get all finals run, done and won before the curfew time of 10:30pm.

Stay turned for photos of the night when they will be published on this website and on the www.thecarrells.com website around the middle of the week.

Free Rides for the Kids

Posted 18th January 2006

This Saturday night, the Maryborough Speedway are putting on FREE rides for the kids between 5pm and 9pm.  One of the greatest jumping castle/slides will be one of the attractions.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club are dedicated in provided a fantastic venue, with plenty to do for each and every member of the family.  We plan to make a night at the speedway, the most fulfilling, enjoyable and family fun night anywhere in South East Queensland, while still keeping prices at good value and as low as possible.  We are always looking at ways to add to the show at Maryborough, so if you have any great ideas, please contact us via the email, admin@maryboroughspeedway.com.au.

If the Free rides are a huge success, they will become a regular feature at all Maryborough Speedway race meetings.

We look forward to seeing the whole family at Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night for a 5pm start.

Calendar Updated

Posted 17th January 2006

Make sure you check out the Calendar as it has been just updated.  Scroll down and check out for yourself all the upcoming massive meetings and surprises coming your way for the rest of the 06/07 season.

Did someone say V8 Sprintcars, V8 Super Sedans and more Fireworks???? And did you say something about a Demolition Derby ???

Get set for a Cracker !!!

Posted 17th January 2006

This Saturday nights race meeting is going to be a cracker, with Queensland Titles for Compact Speedcars and QSCA Juniors.  21 Compact Speedcars have nominated and are coming from as far away as Victoria.  The current Australian Champ, Danny "Chooka" Stainer will be here to defend his Qld Title that he won at Maryborough last season.  Danny is the first person in Compact Speedcar history to hold A1, Q1, NSW1 and VIC1 in the same season.  So Stainer will be the man to beat come Saturday night.

Aussie Champ, Danny Stainer loves Maryborough and is ready for the Title

The QSCA Junior Street Sedans are aged between 12 and 17 and have a field of 24 nominated for this week Title.  Defending Champion Jason Slade will fire up the big falcon to see if he can go back to back, but will have five home town heroes in Danielle Harris, Hamish Redman, Brian Grundy, Mitch Thomsen and Sam Cordie all trying to keep the title in Maryborough.  These children are the future stars of Speedway, so make sure you bring a loud voice to cheer home the locals.

Mitch Thomsen is ready for a "Crack at the Title"

The Bay City Marine/Redman's Radiator Exhaust Centre Super Street Stampede will be super, to say the least as 17 drivers from Rocky to Brisbane line up to take home the $500 first prize.  The current Queensland Champ, Justin Jenkin is keen to take the money home to Gympie, but the former 3 time Qld Champ Darryl "the Money Man" Etherden is ready for all challenges.  The locals are well represented by Paul "Mr. President" Redman and Kyle "KYLIE" Greaves.

The Super Streets always provide plenty of trills and spills

The Formula 500's have assembled a field of 15 for the night and picking a winner is going to be hard.  With the likes of Moes, Gimson, Shilleto, Dorset and the Pronger's taking on the Brissy boys of Oliver, Eyres, Schwella and Mason, your guess is as good as mine on who is going to take out the 15 lap feature on Saturday night.

Maryborough's Dan Moes and Allan Gimson raring to go after finishing 3rd and 5th in the Victorian Title last weekend

Street Sedans Division one and two make up the program and get to have a shake down before the Qld Title next weekend in Kingaroy.  Although slightly down on numbers, you can bet that the action will be on, as the Maryborough Club Championship battle heats up.

Gates open at 2pm with racing getting underway at 5pm SHARP.

Don't forget that a full bar and canteen will be operational all night and we have free rides for the kids between 5pm - 9pm.

See you this Saturday night.

Formula 500's also running this Saturday

Posted 14th January 2006

The flying Formula 500's have been added to the program this Saturday, which is shaping up to be an awesome meeting.  Fresh after the Oval Express Series in South Australia and Victoria, Shilleto, Moes, Gimson, Jordan and the Pronger's are all keen to battle it out with the rest of the Queenslanders on the Australian Title venue this Saturday night.

After a such a competitive series down south, the boys and their toys are ready to break the 13 second barrier and get in some more race practice before the Australian Title to be held at Easter.

The night will see the 20+ Compact Speedcars battle it out for the Queensland Title.  Also contesting their Queensland Title will be the QSCA Junior Street Sedans which Maryborough will be represented by Mitchell Thomsen, Sam Cordie, Brian Grundy, Hamish Redman and Danielle Harris.

A very good field of Super Streets will be contesting the Bay City Marine/Redman's Radiator Exhaust Super Street Stampede.  Add in the division one and two Street Sedans and the Formula 500's and you have a cracker night of 'Sensational Speedway Action' at the place where dreams come true, Maryborough Speedway.

Make sure you don't miss out on this Saturday's speedway meeting as it is truly going to be awesome.

See you Saturday and bring the family, as we have FREE rides for the kids.

Thomsen set for new challenge

Posted 11th January 2006

Maryborough's Scott Thomsen, has had a week he would rather forget, after the devastation at Kingaroy after the ASCF Junior Qld Title.

Unfortunately for Thomsen he will be spending the next 12 months on the sidelines, but the young 17 year old is keen to pay his dues to the sport and become a QSCA Trainee Race Steward and become the Flag Marshall at all Maryborough Speedway meetings.

Scott still can't believe that his engine was illegal, but is certainly looking forward to learning the speedway craft from a different angle.  This will no doubt be very beneficial to Scott and will make the already "naturally gifted" Maryborough flyer, even more talented and competitive and will set him up for big things when he returns to racing in 2008.

Posted 1st January 2006

48 hours after his amazing Australian Title win, Chris Hayden is still on cloud nine after winning the 'Maryborough City Council' Australian ASCF Junior Title.

Hayden is hanging around in Maryborough this week with his family seeing the sights of Maryborough and Hervey Bay, before he heads to Kingaroy this Saturday night to try and win the Qld ASCF Junior Title.

Chris is certainly looking forward to running the A1 on the side of his Corolla at Kingaroy is hopeful he can make it 2 wins in as many weeks.

After the Qld Title, Chris will return home to South Australia to finish the season in ASCF Juniors.  Next season Chris is looking forward to mixing it with the big boys, as he will start he career in Modified Productions.  Let's hope we see him back in Maryborough one day...

Hayden wins Aussie Title

Posted 31st December 2006

South Australian Chris Hayden, has won last nights 'Maryborough City Council' Australian ASCF Junior Title in yet again another fantastic weekend of great times and awesome racing.

Hayden who went into night two as the highest qualifier, retained that ranking after winning his final heat of the night, to start on pole for the A Main.  Driving the C J Rodges Transport Toyota Corolla, Hayden beat home fellow South Aussie Adrian Cottrell also of South Australia and defending Champion Kyle Spicer of WA.

Another West Aussie, Bronwyn 'doing it for the girls' Channing finished fourth, while Jason Gantz who started out of thirteenth, finished in fifth ahead of Rachael Varnavides of WA in sixth.

Hayden led throughout the Main event with Cottrell and Spicer trying to stay on terms as they sizzled around the quick Maryborough circuit.  Home town hero, Scott Thomsen, who started out of position three, unfortunately suffered a flat tyre early the event which saw him finish well done in the field.  Bronwyn Channing showed brilliant driving ability, not to be up staged by the boys and had her pink Charade running around the fence on many occasions.

The final was a brilliant spectacle, with sixteen of the twenty starters finishing the event.  Further to this point, all fifty eight drivers who started the National Title were all still running at the end of the 24th heat.

Speaking to Hayden after the win, he was obviously very happy about the win and can't wait to put A1 on the side of the Corolla and head out of Kingaroy next weekend to contest the Qld ASCF Junior Title.

In the other divisions, Maryborough's Chris Elliot smashed the field to win the Division one Street Sedan Wide Bay Cup.  Elliot was on fire all weekend and beat home Neil Harm and Hervey Bay's Frank Packer.

The division two Street Sedan Wide Bay Cup was won by Maryborough's Gary Harris who lead from start to finish. Bjorn Ahlstrom and Luke Lahiff finished second and third respectively.

Friday night saw the Nostalgia Sedans (formerly Vintage), was taken out by Allan Stutz from Tony Gablonski and Cyril Bates.

The Dwarf Cars turned it on once again with plenty of trills and spills, but new driver to the division, Matt Greenbury took out the final from John Tyson and Phil Hart.

The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank everyone that supported this prestigious event and to everyone that volunteered time during the lead up and during the event.  Once again we would like to give a big thank you to the Maryborough City Council for the support to the event.

Maryborough Speedway only has a couple of weeks break with the next meeting being on 20th January.  This meeting will be another big one, with the running of the Queensland Compact Speedcar Title and the Queensland QSCA Junior Street Sedan Title.
