Raymont's too strong!! Posted 30th September, 2007 The Qld Champion Aidan Raymont has raced home to win the Modified Production A Main last night ahead of his older brother Mark Raymont. Sunshine Coast driver Troy Ware surprised a few with an awesome drive to finish third. Ware showed that he has plenty of pace in the Falcon this season. The night was full of plenty of excellent racing with nail biting races, plenty of door to door action and some trills and spills for the crowd.
Raymont was far and away the stand out on the night and will be happy to start the season on a high in preparation for the Australian Title to be held at Maryborough at Easter. The Australian Champ Todd Doyle also showed excellent speed out of the VX Commodore however he had two DNF's due to flat tyres. The crowd certainly enjoyed the non-stop action from the Modified Productions and everyone will be looking forward to seeing them and more back on November 10 for Round 2 of the G & W Racing Modified Production Series. Maryborough's Shane Skene returned to form in the Street Sedans to win the final. Skene narrowly hung on to win the final as he ran wide on the final corner of the last lap, hit the fence and spun across the line to win the first Street Sedan final of the season. Sunshine Coast's David Kent finished second ahead to Qld Champ Jim Cowley. Some people thought that the combining of Division One and two Street Sedans would be a bad moved, however all talk after the meeting to drivers and spectators that it was a success. Mitch Thomsen had an impressive night by winning the QSCA Juniors and finishing second in the ASCF Juniors. Nathan Francis was the winner of the ASCF Juniors with young Jayden Peacock finishing the third. The girls filled the minor placings in the QSCA Juniors with Tiffany O'Keefe (second) and Hannah Vervaart (third). Maryborough's Paul Redman won the 4 cylinder Speedway sedans final comfortably with a super drive from the rear of the field in the final. Blake Hancock cruised home in second in front of Tom Johnson. Rounding out the nights entertainment where the Speedway Karts. These little buzz boxes put on some very close and exciting racing. Shane McJannett was too strong in the Seniors Final and Anthony Harrison too strong in the Juniors. The next meeting is only 2 weeks away with the V8 Sprintcars returning to Maryborough on October 13th for a round of the MSAQ Series. What a night it will be with Speedcars, Compact Speedcars, Formula 500's and Nostalgia Sedans. Modified Productions set to rock Maryborough Posted 24th September, 2007 This Saturday night sees the speedway season officially kick off with the return of the Mighty Modified Productions. 22 drivers have nominated for this Saturday night including the current Australian Champion Todd Doyle. Doyle was extremely dominant at the final show of the season, back in June by winning the final in convincing fashion and will be looking a solid start to the season in preparation to defend his Australian Title which will be held in Maryborough at Easter. The current Qld Champion Aidan Raymont will be one also ready kick of the season in style hoping for a feature race win. Among the field is Qld #2 Gavin Lorensen who has turned a lot of heads since coming into the division only 6 months ago. Greg and Mark Raymont, Steve Price, Mark Ferguson and the fire breathing Mazda RX7 of Garry Maroske will be all drivers to watch, but don't count out our Maryborough drivers, Steve Thomsen, Daryn Brims, Steven Zahl and rookie Travis Hutchinson.
Street Sedans have been combined at Maryborough in season 07/08 and we have 20 drivers locked and loaded, ready to go for this Saturday night. After seeing some of the drivers putting in some good lap times at the practice day on Sunday, it should make for excellent and exiting racing. ASCF Juniors and QSCA Junior Street Sedans will be also running with some of the older drivers from last season moving up to senior divisions, it will be interesting to see who will be the front runners at this early stage of the season. 4 Cylinder Speedway Sedans make a welcomed returned to Maryborough Speedway. 4 Cylinder Speedway Sedans are a great class that always provides great racing and a little bit of biff and barge. The ever popular Dwarf Cars return to the track and all though numbers are down a little, these little pocket rockets are looking forward to returning to the always fast Maryborough track. Making up the nights entertainment will be the Speedway Karts who made a solid impression at the Monster Truck show. Both Seniors and Juniors will be racing and they will be having an important hit-out on the Maryborough track as they will be contesting their Queensland Title in the Heritage City on 29th December. Racing gets underway at 4pm with gates opening at 1pm. As always the great food will be available from the canteen and the bar will be also in operations. Don't forget that NO Alcohol or glass is to be brought onto the complex and eskies will be checked when coming through the gates. The FREE Jumping castle will be back for the children, so we look forward to seeing you this Saturday night. Posted 23rd September, 2007 The Wide Bay Bike Bonanza promised so much with over 80 bikes in the pits at 5pm when practice started. Unfortunately after 16 awesome events and plenty of trill and spills, the storm swept across the complex dumping over 40mm of rain and wrecking any chance of running the rest of the event. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank everyone for being so understanding in testing conditions and would also like to apologise for having no other option but to cancel the Wide Bay Bike Bonanza. Hopefully we can attract another top-rate field of bikes and get the bikes back to Maryborough Speedway. A Monster Crowd for a Monster Night Posted 2nd September, 2007 A massive crowd of well over 5000 rolled into the revamped Maryborough Speedway last night for the "Handy Hire" Monster Truck Extravaganza. The big crowd witness everything from Magicians and jumping castles to V8 Sprintcars, Fireworks and the Bandag Bullet, but it was Bear Foot and Aussie Predator that stole the show as they put on plenty of awesome shows in the centre ring at the Maryborough Speedway. The night kicked off with some burnouts and then young Hervey Bay Solo rider David Saunders put on an demonstration run for the upcoming bike meeting but unfortunately his night ended early after he fell in turn two crashing into the fence and doing ligament damage to his left knee. The Formula 500's, Compact Speedcars, Speedway Karts and Modified Productions had there turn and showcased Speedway racing to the "first timers" with plenty of side by side, clean and fast racing that saw plenty of passing and non stop action. Hervey Bay Formula 500 driver Ben Dorset, will be remembered by plenty of young fans after he rode the wheel sending his brand new race car into the fence and sending him upside down. Ben walked away unhurt to the massive cheers of the very vocal crowd. The 800 horsepower V8 Sprintcars returned to Maryborough and didn't they once again turn it on. Brock Dean won the final from Jason Bottin and Dan Murray finishing third, but Brock Dean's heat race win where he drove around the fence to pass the field of win will be remember by the plenty. Maryborough Dale Shilleto took out the Formula 500 feature with a convincing display beating home Kenny Newton and rookie Brock Hallet. The Monster Trucks proved very popular amongst the big crowd and cheers for them sent shivers up the spine. Ace Fireworks put on two awesome fireworks shows and the Bandag Bullet was a big hit with everyone that rolled through the gates. The "Handy Hire" Monster Truck Extravaganza was a huge success and plans have already started on bringing the Monster Trucks back to Maryborough Speedway next season. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank everyone that assisted on the night and of course our major sponsor Handy Hire. Without them the show could not of happened. The club now has only a couple of weeks break before the Wide Bay Bike Bonanza comes to town on September 22nd. In front of another big Maryborough crowd, Australian Champion Todd Doyle has won last nights "Raw Sausage" Modified Production Dash 4 Cash. Doyle started off the front row of the final, however dropped backed a few positions after a slow start. Doyle however started to drive well during the middle of the race and get to the lead after Queensland Champ Aidan Raymont suffered a flat right rear tyre. As the laps counted down Mark Raymont closed right in on Doyle and the two raced nose to tail for the final 5 laps, but Doyle was too good and took out the final Modified Production feature race of the season. Mark Raymont finished second ahead of Troy Ware who moved his way up from 8th. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank "The Raw Sausage" for their support of the Dash 4 Cash event.
The Dwarf Cars turned up with an excellent field for their Queensland Title and the racing was fast and furious right through the heats. the top 18 lined up for the 25 lap final and didn't they "turn it on". After numerous yellow lights and stoppages, Scott Lehfeldt won the Qld Title ahead of Matt Greenbury and Peter Rodges. The Pedro Petersen Memorial was a very competitive hit out for the Super Streets, which saw plenty of "biff and barge" during the heat races. A somewhat diminished field lined up for the final, however the final was sensational. Steve Thomsen started out of pole in the final and had challenges from plenty during the final. With a about 8 laps to go, Gladstone's Chris Pendry got up on the outside of Thomsen and the two ran side by side for many laps changing from the inside to the outside. As Thomsen and Pendry came into turn 3 and 4 for the last time, chaos unfolded which saw the yellows come on Steve Thomsen was awarded the win from Andy Roberts and Lee Steffens. The Division One feature race started at a frantic pace with Richard Brosnan and Tim Atkin running hard against each other during the open stages of the event. As the laps counted Atkin and Brosnan still locked together in a red hot battle came together in a big way which saw the end result of two wrecked race cars sitting on the infield. At the restart Maryborough's Chris Elliot drove away from the field to win yet again another feature race. Shane Skene also from Maryborough finished second with Gympie's Allen Nottage finishing in third. It was a Maryborough 1,2,3 in the Division two Street Sedans with Dion Wood winning from Gary Harris and Glen Richters. The hard luck story of the final was Gympie's Brett Baxter who had a big lead in the feature who hit the fence on the very last corner of the last lap to give the win to Wood. The QSCA Junior Street Sedan final was declared early after a massive crash between Maryborough duo, Mitch Thomsen and Bronte McGowan. Thomsen was challenging Max Clarke for the lead who came up passed Bronte McGowan and made contract with her sending her right into the path of a flying Mitch Thomsen. Thomsen hit McGowan with an almighty hit which destroyed both cars and set the Thomsen Falcon on fire. The Maryborough Crash Crew were straight onto the scene and both drivers and passengers walked away without injury. The race was declared and Max Clarke was given the win, with Thomsen keeping his second and Danielle Harris rounding out the podium. The big crowd who braved the cold conditions hung right around to the end to see 20 drivers roll onto the track for the $1000 to win Demolition Derby. The field of cars had everything from Volvo's, Falcon's, Holden's, Valliant's and even a Corolla and didn't they have some fun. After plenty of carnage if was one of the Wilson Brothers from Bundaberg that took home the $1000. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to apologise for the PA systems breaking down for the first half of the show, however thanks to the help of Robbie Griffin Electrical, had the system working again. The club would like to thank everyone that has supported the club during a very successful season. During the 06/07 season the club has not only run a whole host of fantastic title event, but has also seen the biggest crowd numbers in a couple of decades. The complex has had some major facelifts during the season, however the work will continue during off season to further more improve one of the premier speedway venues in Queensland. Congratulations to our Maryborough Modified Production Drivers Posted 13th June, 2007 Daryn Brims, Steve Thomsen and Steven Zahl traveled to Gympie's Mothar Mountain Speedway last weekend to compete in the 2007 Queensland Modified Production Title. Darryl Etherden wins Super Street Title Posted 20th May, 2007 Rockhampton's Darryl "Money Man" Etherden took out the 2007 Queensland Super Street Title last night at Maryborough Speedway.
It was Etherden's fourth Qld Title and he says "this one feels as good my first". In front of a another good sized crowd. Etherden was never trouble and easily won the title ahead of Bundaberg's Dennis Shallcross and Home town hero Steve Thomsen finishing in third. Etherden started the feature from pole as he drove brilliantly all weekend and also recording the fastest lap time of 15.808 seconds. On Friday night, the V8 Dirt Modifieds put on some unbelievable racing which saw the current Qld and NSW Champ Luke Oldfield win the feature race. Home in second was Andrew Drake and Darren Lattimer finished in third. The racing from the "Dirt Mods" was spectacular which saw them consistently running two and three wide for entire heat races. The V8 Dirt Modifieds proved a big hit with the crowd and negotiations have started to get them back on a more regular basis. The Nostalgia Sedans turned some great racing, and Cyril Bates won the feature race from Tony Gablonski and a fast finishing John Watson. Saturday night saw the crowd roll in and the racing from the get go was top shelf, as the new track surface has enable drivers to drive anywhere on the track. A good field of Speedcars fronted for the Fraser Coast Speedcar Spectacular and didn't they get the hammer down and put on some nail biting racing. The Feature race started without to many dramas but former Sprintcar driver Brock Dean got out to a big lead when he suffered a front suspension problem which saw him spin out of the race. This allowed Kelvin Hamilton to race home to the feature ahead of Kenny Stanaway and Shane Heathcote (who drove in the ASCF Junior Aussie Title in December). All drivers paid particular to congratulations to the Maryborough Speedway for providing the best race surface that they had raced on this season. The Dwarf Cars certainly proved a big hit with the crowd and Darcy Tweed stole the limelight by having a massive rollover on Friday night after making contact with another car which saw him go into a violent series of rolls up into the top of the catch fence. The contact was that big, that it actually bent to the steel poles that hold the catch fence. Amazingly, Darcy walked away unhurt. The feature race was won by the birthday boy Anthony Chaffey. The Junior Street Sedan final was easily won by the Queensland Champion Brandon O'Keefe. Finishing in second was Maryborough's Mitch Thomsen ahead of Michelle Blavius. In the Division One Street Sedans, Maryborough's Chris Elliot won the 20 laps feature from Hervey Bay's Frank Packer and Craig Franz. 17 year old Brett Baxter from Gympie was able to comfortably win the Division Two final. The battle over the last 10 laps of the final for second and third was awesome as Hervey Bay duo Sam Lack and Glen Richters. The two didn't trade paint however race hard and fast but on the last lap Lack moved to the outside and drove around the outside of Richters to finish in second. The meeting was another huge success and was enjoyed by plenty. The next meeting at Maryborough Speedway will be on June 16 when a big field of Modified Productions return for the Dash 4 Cash. Big weekend planned Posted 16th May, 2007 Speedway is back in a big way this Friday and Saturday night when Maryborough Speedway hosts the Queensland Super Street Title. 31 drivers from around the state have nominated with the cream of the crop ready to put the Q1 on the side of there car. Defending Champion Justin Jenkin is looking at going back to back. If he can do it, he will only the fourth driver in Super Street history that has won the title back to back (Chris Jensen - 88 & 89, Russell McFadyen - 92 & 93 and Darryl Etherden 04 & 05).
The driver in the division that has won the most titles is none other then Darryl "Money Man" Etherden who has won the title three times. Darryl has been in red hot form of late and is leading the polls as favourite on a popular speedway forum. Among the rest of the hopes is former Queensland Champion Robert Zelinski who will be driving the Kyle Greaves owned Falcon. Steve Thomsen is the only local in the field and he steps back in the Glen Richters green Cortina and the team have made some changes to the set up and are looking forward to a solid showing come the end of the 40 lap feature race to be held on Saturday night. Steve Cook, Andy Roberts, Tony Gaunt, Lee Steffens, Kane Heidke and Dennis Shallcross have all shown plenty of speed of late and all have a great chance of taking out the 2007 Super Street Queensland Title. The drivers will each face up for 3 rounds of heats on Friday night and then on Saturday night they will have the final round of heats and then the B-Main and the all important 40 lap championship race. The V8 Dirt Modifieds make their return to Maryborough on Friday night and are looking at turning the track alight. The V8 Dirt Modifieds are a cross between a V8 Sprintcar and a V8 Super Sedan and have to be scene to be believed.
Friday night will also see the Dwarf Cars, Nostalgia Sedans and the Modified Production all battle it out in a fantastic night of speedway action.
