Posted 27th April, 2008 Brisbane's Luke Oldfield's has raced home to win the first running of the V8 Dirt Modified King of the Ring. Oldfield was dominant in his performance and beat home Ray Klarich & Ray Eggins. With the track allowing for 2 and 3 wide racing, the big Maryborough crowd got to witness a feature that will be talked about for long, long time. In the Modified Production Wide Bay Cup, it was the current Qld Champ Aidan Raymont that took the win from Steve Price and Dale Grother. The Modified Production once again put on some fantastic door to door racing and the next time we get to see the Modified Productions will be over the June Long weekend for the running of the Queensland Title. The Formula 500's returned to Maryborough and they didn't disappoint with Nathan Pronger beating home Dale Shilleto with Mick Pronger finishing in third. All weekend the Formula 500's put on plenty of fantastic racing. Unfortunately Mal Cooper, Ken Newton and Wayne Moller all walked away from nasty rollovers, thankfully all drivers where uninjured. (Ken Newton would like to pay special thanks to Chris and Dale Shilleto for allowing Ken to repair the car for the second night at their workshop and for lending a few new components to get him back on the track for night 2). The Maryborough Speedway has a 2 week break before returning on May 17th for the return of the V8 Super Sedans for the final round of the Qld Series. The night will also feature the Street Sedans, and the Fraser Coast Cup for the QSCA Junior Street Sedans and ASCF Juniors. Click here to download a nomination form. The ANZAC weekend is going to be HUGE!!! Posted 23rd April, 2008 The Maryborough Speedway roars back into life this Friday and Saturday night with a massive 2 nights of racing. The 600 horse power V8 Dirt Modifieds are back and will contest the King of the Ring and with $15,000 in prize money on offer, an excellent field of well over 20 cars from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland will assemble on the super fast Maryborough track this Friday and Saturday night. After a successful Australian title held at Maryborough over Easter, the Modified Productions are back to settle some scores in the Wide Bay Cup. 25 drivers have nominated and are all looking for a way to beat back to back Australian Champion Todd Doyle. Doyle was unstoppable at the Aussie Title, but with the likes of the Raymont's, Fletcher, Price, Pagel, Lorensen and the locals of Zahl, Bayfield, Thomsen and Hutchison it will be a very tough contest to take out the Wide Bay Cup. The flying Formula 500's are back for the first running of the Queensland Formula 500 Nationals and super field of 22 drivers have nominated. Leading the field is the newly crowned Australian Champion Mick Pronger, who is certainly looking forward to making his return to Maryborough. Mick's son Nathan Pronger is also among the stellar field which includes Aussie #2 Garry Hart, Qld #2 Ken Newton, West Aussie Kristian Kelly, New South Welshmen Tony Frew and the red hot locals of Dale Shilleto, Wayne Moller, Ben Dorsett and Darrell Woodley. All drivers have their eye on the $1000 first prize. Supporting on both nights will be the ever popular Street Sedans and with only 3 rounds to go in the local club championship, it is time for some drivers to "put up or pack up". Once again a great field of around 20 drivers are set to for the starters orders this Friday and Saturday night. V8 Dirt Modifieds, Modified Productions, Formula 500's and Street Sedans will all race on both nights and the ASCF Juniors will support on Friday night only and the 4 Cylinder Sedans will support on Saturday night only. New Lighting has been installed Posted 16th April, 2008 After 'grubs' caused problems in the car park during the Easter meeting, The Maryborough Sporting Car Club has just about finished installing all off the new flood lighting for the Car Park at the Maryborough Speedway. The entire project will cost in the vicinity of $5000, money the club didn't really have spare. Having said that, the club believes that if this prevents anymore problems occurring in the carpark, then it is money well spent. In addition to the extra flood lighting, the club will have random foot patrols in the car park during race nights and the police will also have a greater presence with extra patrols. Working Bee - This Sunday 20th April, 2008 @ 9:00am Posted 14th April, 2008 A working bee will be held at the track this Sunday at 9am. Please bring your mowers. Urgent - Volunteer Position Vacant Posted 4th April, 2008 We no longer have a Canteen Convenor. This position needs to be filled ASAP, and is now crucial that someone steps forward and takes on this extremely important job, for us to have a successful club we need to have a successful canteen. The job only involves the following: You will be required to be at the track on Saturday morning to get the buns, rolls, pies and steak etc orders and set up for the nights meeting to be operational by the time gates open. This job is not hard but does need someone to be 100% committed. Doyles wins the "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship Posted 24th March, 2008 Gympie's Todd Doyle has successfully defended his Australian Championship, by last night winning the 2008 Handy Hire Australian Modified Production Championship. Doyle beat home Victoria's Andrew Blackwell by only .194 seconds with Lismore's Greg Worling finishing in what was an action packed weekend of racing.
During Friday's practice session, Andrew Blackwell set a new Modified Production lap record with 15.549 seconds. It was a great drive by Doyle, who described the track as the best he has seen in 20 years at Maryborough. For a full race report from the Australian Championship please check out www.speedwaysedans.com, courtesy of Jason Crowe from the SSA. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to
thank EVERYONE that assisted in bringing the 2008 Handy Hire
Australian Modified Production Championship to the Maryborough
Speedway. The Speedway has a well earned 5 week break before we return for another big double headed over the Anzac weekend which will feature the V8 Dirt Modifieds who will be contesting the "King of the Ring". "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship is just about go!! Posted 18th March, 2008 The Maryborough Speedway is only days away from when 90 drivers from all over the nation "turn up the heat" for the 2008 "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship. Defending Australian Champion Todd Doyle who hails from Gympie, is currently putting the final touches to his beautifully presented VX Commodore after rolling it over in Brisbane a few weeks ago. Doyle is still confident and hoping he can bring it home in top spot and go back to back.
Joining Doyle in the field are last years runner up and third place getter, Ash Parkinson and Trevor Mills. Also nominated are the current state champions, Aidan Raymont (QLD), Steve Price (NSW), Andrew Blackwell (VIC) and Bryan Galley (SA). Among the field are former Australian Champions Greg Worling, Jason Jolley, Ash Parkinson and Justin Drew. Among the awesome array of drivers coming to compete and the Heritage city will have 5 home town hero’s competing in the Aussie Championship.
Travis Hutchison, Steve Thomsen, Brendan Bayfield, Steven Zahl and Daryn Brims will be flying the flag for the locals and are counting on plenty of local support over the Easter long weekend.
Hutchison in his first season in Modified Production racing has been racing since he was 15. After a slow start to the season with suspension and electrical problems, I his last meeting Travis was running strongly in the feature race until he was taken out by a fellow competitor.
Steve Thomsen is no stranger to racing Speedway as he has 20 years experience and has finished third in the 2002 Australian Modified Production Title held in Western Australian. Although Thomsen has the runs on the boards, he is still coming to terms with his brand new BA Ford Falcon which he and his team have been working on real hard trying to get the race car set-up correctly to get all the power to the ground. Not only has he had to set up a new race car, Thomsen also had to rebuild his falcon after rolling it over in Toowoomba earlier in the season. Having said all this, Thomsen is confident that all the boxes are ticked and he is ready for another Australia Title assault on his home track.
Brendan Bayfield has been around in speedway for a while and after trying his hand at V8 Super Sedan racing, Bayfield has returned to the greatest sedan division in speedway and has the car to take him to high places. Bayfield who hails from Hervey Bay, is running a VL Commodore that’s previous owner had plenty of successes in. Bayfield hopes he can stay out of trouble and have the car up the pointy end come feature race time.
Fellow Hervey Bay business man, Steven Zahl, has a beautifully presented VX commodore and his team have been building up to this event for the past couple of seasons. Zahl has been busy this season traveling all over Queensland and New South Wales racing the best drivers on the Eastern Sea Board, in preparation for the Aussie Championship. Zahl has had numerous podium finishes this season and has showed plenty of speed. He has ever chance of winning the Aussie Title, but he is aiming just to make the top 20 and make the feature race.
Rounding out the local contenders is the Maryborough Sporting Car Club secretary Daryn Brims who at the last minute, decided to get his VX Commodore ready and enter in the 90 strong car count. Brims that in only his third Modified Production race finished the Qld Title in 7th position at Gympie last season. Brims is a former back to back Street Sedan Qld Champion and knows what it takes to win big races, but also knows the challenge ahead of him and the rest of the 90 nominated drivers. Brims is just hoping to do his family and his sponsors proud over the Easter long weekend.
All the on track action starts on Thursday afternoon with the first practice session commencing at 3pm. This will run to about 6:30pm and then the party will start at the track with Swarm playing live and all the fun of the Calcutta will get underway.
Friday night will see the final practice session between 5pm and 8pm and then all the racing commences on Saturday and Sunday night from 4pm (both nights).
A full canteen and bar will be in operation over the weekend and once again the free jumping castle will be there for the kids.
Make sure you make it to the Maryborough Speedway this weekend for the 2008 "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship, as it will be one of the biggest you have ever seen.

Falcon "Handy Hire' Australian Modified Production Championship Pre-Championship Party, Practice and Calcutta Posted 4th March, 2008 With possibility of one of the biggest fields of Modified Production drivers for the upcoming “Handy Hire” Australian Modified Production Championship at the Maryborough Speedway, the Maryborough Sporting Car Club has stepped up the plans to make the Thursday night Pre-Championship Party one that will be remember for a very, very long time. Swarm is one of the premier pub bands in regional Queensland. They are an extremely entertaining, live wire, five piece rock band that will play all the pub favourites with plenty of new and old songs on the back of a semi trailer at the trackside “Black Flagged Bar”. Peter Souvlis the front man of Swarm has been quoted saying how much they are looking forward to cranking it up at the Speedway for the Pre-Championship Party. Souvlis said “the harder they party, the better the show”. Along with the live band, the Maryborough Sporting Car Club has organised one of the premier auctioneers from the Wide Bay region who professionally does a lot of government, council and live stock auctions and also has a great love with Speedway. Paul Kernke is looking forward to making the Calcutta an extremely enjoyable part of the night. The Pre-Championship Practice session will commence at 3pm and will finish at 6pm. With the track being in close proximity to town, the club is expecting a lot of people to come down after work to watch the practice session and then stay on to party the night away. Gates will open for practice around 1pm and the cost to practice is $40 per car. Once this is paid and the safety check is completed on the car, it will be time to turn as many laps as possible for the 3 hour duration of practice. Admission for spectators to the Practice session and the Pre-Championship is completely free. The Black Flagged Bar has better then pub prices and the canteen will be in operation with mouth watering steak burgers, golden brown hot chips along with plenty of other fantastic food to cover you and the family for dinner. This will be a great night to have some fun and good times before the 2008 “Handy Hire” Australian Modified Production Championships hits its straps. Sydney's Adrian Maher wins the Sprintcar 'Dash 4 Cash' Posted 2nd March, 2008 Sydney's Adrian Maher won last nights V8 Sprintcar Dash 4 Cash. In front of a massive crowd of well over 3000 people, Adrian Maher stayed out of trouble and captured a trilling feature race win. Maher qualified well, and showed plenty of speed throughout the heat races and finished the dash in third to start off position three in 30 lap feature race. After the 18 car field of Sprintcars rolled around in a 3 wide salute to the massive crowd, the feature race got underway with Andrew Scheuerle leading the feature until Todd Wanless rounded him up and passed Scheuerle on the outside for the leading. As the laps counted down the yellows came on for the first time after Cameron Gessner spun by himself in turn two. At the restart Wanless once again got out to a decent size lead, but it was like Maher just turned on a switch and closed in on Wanless like he was standing still. Wanless now had to set up the anti and this is when Wanless made contact with Brodie Tulloch which sent Wanless spearing into the turn four wall and rolling over bringing on the reds. Just a the reds came on Ian Loudoun (from Sydney) came around and rode a wheel sending his Sprintcar into a series of barrel rolls down the main straight. After the mess was cleaned up, the race restarted with 9 laps to go. Adrian Maher then raced away to a lead until the red's where brought on again when Pete Thorley, hit the fence causing him to Invert the Jason MacDonald JEI that he borrowed after he and Mark Pholi had once of the biggest and most frightening Sprintcar crashes ever seen at Maryborough Speedway in the first round of heats. With only a handful of laps to go, Adrian Maher raced home to win the V8 Sprintcar Dash 4 Cash from Andrew Scheuerle and Peter Lack. Adrian Maher was very happy with his win after some Qlder's had said that the Parramatta boys can't run on tracks with fences. Maher can't wait to return to Maryborough Speedway for another crack at the cherry. In the support classes Cyril Bates won the Nostalgia Sedans, and once again the flying Formula 500's put on a great show and it was 16 year old Brock Hallet from Woodgate won raced home to win the feature race from Garry Hart and Shaun Eyres. The Compact Speedcars was won by Wayne Corbett and the litre Sprintcar feature race was taken out by Sid Whittaker. Maryborough's Scott Harth finished second with Peter Nankervis finishing third. After a very successful meeting, the Maryborough Sporting Car Club now turns its attention towards the "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship that will be held over the Easter Long weekend. Attention: Local drivers Posted 28th February, 2008 With the large amount of work and the large amount of volunteers we will need to run the Australian Modified Production Title at Easter time, it has been decided that Street Sedans, ASCF Juniors and QSCA Juniors won't be running for club championship points over Easter weekend. Hopefully this will allow our own club drivers to leave their cars at home for the weekend, and instead assist the club during the lead-up, during the race days and on the race night itself. A full list of jobs for the championship will be posted to everyone in the next week. I look forward to everyone's assistance to make the "Handy Hire" Australian Modified Production Championship the biggest and most successful title ever held. Biggest ever field of V8 Sprintcar for the "Dash 4 Cash" Posted 26th February, 2008 The biggest ever field of V8 Sprintcars seen at Maryborough Speedway will tear up the track this Saturday night when 33 winged wonders come to town for the running of the V8 Sprintcar "Dash 4 Cash". 33 drivers from Cairns to Sydney have nominated and they include some of the biggest Sprintcar stars in the nation. Leading the charge is Sydney trio Ian Loudoun, Adrian Maher and Sammy Walsh. Loudoun currently leads the Parramatta Track Championship and is looking forward to showing up the Qlder's. His teammate, Adrian Maher has also had a strong season in Sydney and he currently sits fourth in the Parramatta Track Championship. Sammy Walsh is one of Australia's rising Sprintcar stars and is extremely looking forward to running on the super fast Maryborough track. Amongst the field also includes last Maryborough start winner and lap record holder Pete Thorley. On his last visit to town he cleaned house and set a new lap record of 11.110 seconds. If conditions are right, he believes the Maryborough crowd will see the 850 horse power V8's break into the 10 second bracket. His teammate and former Australian Champion Todd Wanless is also making a return to town for the Dash 4 Cash. North Queensland is represented by five drivers and they are Aidan Gee, Gary Finglas, Lawrence Quagliata, Troy Coomber and Tony Wynne. It is certainly great to see the support from our Northern Sprintcar counterparts. Throw in the World Series Sprintcar star Peter Lack, along with other Queensland Super Stars Cameron Gessner, Andrew Scheuerle, Brad Hilder and Darren Jensen (who is driving the Black Q36 Titan Sprintcar), this will no doubt be the biggest and best Sprintcar show ever seen in Maryborough. To top of the night, a jammed packed support program has been organised, so it will be non-stop action all night. Litre Sprintcars make their return to Maryborough and 18 drivers have nominated. After a successful Aussie Title over the Australia Day weekend, the Compact Speedcars are back for the Qld President Cup and 23 drivers from Qld and NSW are ready and raring to go. Throw in the flying Formula 500's and the Nostalgia Sedans, this could possibility the biggest night ever seen at the Maryborough Speedway. All the action gets underway at 4pm with the V8's hitting the track for hotlaps at 5:30pm. Gates open at 1pm, but there is plenty of room for the whole family with the new grandstands and the terraced grassed hill. The new and improved canteen had plenty of great hot, fresh and tasty food and don't forget that the bar will be in operation. Please remember that no glass or alcohol can be brought onto the speedway complex. Security guards will be checking this at the front gate. Tell everyone you know and make sure you get to Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night, as this V8 Sprintcar show is as good as any that you will see anywhere in Australia. Saturday night is Speedway night!!! V8 Sprintcar Nominations

Atkin wins the "Wide Bay Signs" Street Sedan Mary 1000 - 50 Lapper Posted 24th February, 2008 Coming off his Queensland Title win at Rockhampton, Gympie's Tim Atkin has won the inaugural running of the "Wide Bay Signs" Street Sedan Mary 1000 at Maryborough Speedway last night.
Atkin starting the 50 lap feature race from position four and stayed clear of trouble in opening of the 24 car field A Main. After a few nasty incidents which included a multi car pile involving Jessica Raymont, Keryn Goodwin, Wayne Laverty, the feature race soon got some rhythm and Kristian Walker in his beautifully presented VX Commodore, raced out to a big lead. No one had any answers for Walker until a drive line problem put Walker out of the feature race. After Chris Elliot retired from the race with a flat tyre while leading, it was then that Atkin got to lead and held off plenty of challenges for the lead in the closing stages from Craig Franz. Franz and Atkin where battling for the lead when Atkin look to hit a rut coming out of turn two causing him to bounce sideways giving Franz now where to go sending him into the back of Atkin turning him around bringing on the yellows with only 3 laps to go. Franz was sent rear leaving black track specialist Jim Cowley right on the bumper of Atkin. At the restart Atkin held his line and his nerve to race home and win the inaugural running of the Mary 1000. Atkin beat home Jim Cowley, who would like the race to be 60 lap next year, ahead of Nanango resident Murray Dioth. The night was running well for another Gympie resident Brett Baxter who won all three of his heat races to be top point scorer after the heats. Baxter, only 18 years of age, walked onto the infield and pulled the 6 marble (which inverted the top 6 starting positions in the feature race). The challenge was then given to start from the back of the bus and to the crowds delight, Baxter accepted. Unfortunately in the opening stages of the feature race, Baxter got caught up in someone else's accident, which resulted in a flat tyre forcing him out of the Mary 1000. The 4 Cylinder sedans once again put on a great show and it was Bevan Burton driving his methanol powered Fiat that took honours last night from Queensland Champ Paul Redman with Darrell Retschlag finishing in third. The racing from the 4 Cylinders was top shelf with plenty of passing and plenty of photo finishes for the lead during the heat races. The QSCA Junior Street Sedans where well behaved and drove well in hot and testing conditions. Gympie's Tiffany O'Keefe won the feature race from Brad Jennings and Michele Blavius. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would like to thank all of the drivers for the support of the Mary 1000 and would also like to thank our major sponsor Wide Bay Signs for making it possible. The Maryborough Speedway returns next Saturday night when the 850 horse power V8 Sprintcars return in the biggest field ever seen at Maryborough for the Sprintcar "Dash 4 Cash". "Wide Bay Signs" Street Sedan Mary 1000 - 50 Lapper Posted 21st February, 2008 With 58 Nominations this Saturday nights "Wide Bay Signs" Mary 1000, will be nothing short of spectacular. After the 3 rounds of heats, whoever has the highest points will be faced with a problem. He or she will have to draw a marble which will see either the top 4,6 or 8 point scorers reverse their starting positions in the A Main. He or she will have the choice to take up the "back of the bus" challenge. If they accept, they will receive $250 and get to start the 50 lap feature race from position 24. Maryborough will be represented with 13 drivers, who are all looking at winning the first annual running of the Street Sedan Mary 1000. Those drivers are Chris Elliot, Steve Thomsen, Shane Skene, Breck Dowell, Keryn Goodwin, Richard Brosnan, Mark Ferguson, Sam Lack, Sam Grundy, Josh Arthur, Frank Packer, Steve Brunke and Glenn Richters. What a night it will be with gates opening at 1pm and all the racing starting at 4pm. Urgent !!! Posted 18th February, 2008 We no longer have a Canteen Convenor. This position must be filled by the Easter long weekend in order for us to hold the Australian Modified Production Title. It is now crucial that someone steps forward and takes on this extremely important job. For us to have a successful club we need to have a successful canteen. You will need to meet the softdrinks and grog orders during the week (at least 7 days before the meeting). You will then be required to be at the track on Saturday morning to get the buns, rolls, pies and steak etc orders and set up for the nights meeting to be operational by the time gates open. This job is not hard but does need someone to be 100% committed. If you can help with this please contact Ryan Harris on 0407 175 341 as soon as possible. 57 Nominations for the Mary 1000 Posted 17th February, 2008 Wow.... 57 Street Sedans have nominated for the "Wide Bay Signs" Street Sedan Mary 1000 to be held at Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night.

Posted 28th January, 2008 Over 3000 people turned through the gates over the Australia Day weekend to see 2 awesome nights of speedway action. Defending Aussie Champion Danny Stainer successfully defended his title by racing home to win the 2008 Australian Compact Speedcar Championship. Lismore's Craig Smith finished in second and Victorian Peter Robotham rounded out the top three. Tony Brearley crashed out of contention after starting his BHR Razor on the front row of the final. Battling with second, third and fourth, Brearley rode a wheel and had a never rollover in turn two. Tony walked away unhurt, but his Championship dreams crushed.
The Compact racing was excellent all weekend, but it was the Modified Productions that had everyone talking. Over 40 drivers converged on Maryborough SPeedway for "The Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix and what a weekend of racing. Every heat race was action a-plenty with plenty of trills and spills and some awesome wheel to wheel racing. After all the heats Brett Barron was the highest points scorer with Mark Raymont, Steve Price and Aidan Raymont filling the other top four positions. The B Main rolled onto the track, and the big crowd could of been mistaken to think they where watching the feature race, as Bullpit, Ferguson, Grother, Maroske and Pammenter raced high and low with plenty, and I mean plenty of changes for the lead. Grother crossed the line in first, but didn't realise he had been black flagged 5 laps earlier for what was deemed an illegal pass. Final placings in the B Main were Dennis Bullpit, Rodney Pammenter, Mark Ferguson and Gary Maroske (who blew the motor the previous night and had to changed to the spare engine for night two). The A Main got underway and from the outset the drivers all "turned it on" with plenty of wheel rubbing and panel thumping as the 22 car field battled for positions. Out in front Brett Barron was able to continually hold Mark and Aidan Raymont at bay. After countless stoppages and plenty of causalities, Barron only had 2 laps to go but this is when things heated up. Mark and Aidan turned up the heat and applied plenty of pressure to Barron, Barron was still holding them at bay and on the last lap, last corner Raymont and Barron where side by side and Barron got up on two wheels (at right angles to the track) and some how brought the car back to its four wheels, and Mark Raymont spun bringing on the yellows. After plenty of confusion and heated debated, the race restarted with only one lap to go, with Barron out of the race in unusual circumstances, Mark Raymont raced home in his Cortina to win "The Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix. Steve Price finished second and Lismore's Greg Worling finished in third. With Plenty of tongues wagging after the controversial end to the feature race, every single person is looking forward to returning to Maryborough at Easter time for the Australian Modified Production Title. The Formula 500's also trilled the crowd with entertaining racing on both nights. Wayne Moller made a triumphant return to racing with the commanding feature race win on Saturday night and on Sunday night, his teammate, Victorian Lady Racer Jessica Moulden raced home to win Sunday night with Moller finishing behind her in second. The weekend was hailed a big success for the club and was enjoyed by the thousands that came through the gates. The next meeting at Maryborough Speedway will feature the 1st annual running of the Street Sedan Mary 1000 which will see the feature race run over a massive 50 laps. This meeting will be held on 23rd February. Australia Day weekend is going to be huge Posted 22nd January, 2008 This weekend will see one of the biggest show held at Maryborough Speedway for a long, long time. Not only will 41 Compact Speedcars contest the 2008 Australian Title, a big field of 42 Modified Productions will contest "The Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix. The Compact Speedcars first hit the track on Friday night at 6pm for a 2 hour practice session. Entry to the track is free for spectators and after the practice the Compact Club will be holding the Calcutta and Opening Party at the Black Flagged Bar. All the heat races get underway on Saturday night, with the final round of heats being held on Sunday along with the 30 lap, 26 car 2008 Australian Title feature race. Defending Australian Champion Danny Stainer has previously visited the Heritage City on two separate times and on both occasions race home to win both feature races. Making his trip up from Melbourne, Stainer is hoping he can make it back to back Australian Championships. Fellow Victorians Peter Robotham and Brian Cardwell have both finished in the top three at previous Australian Titles and are genuine chances of knocking Danny Stainer for the 2008 title. New South Wales is represented by Sydney based flyer Mitch Biner, who has return from a frightening accident that left a lot of his body badly burned. Biner is back in the saddle and has shown plenty of speed this season and rates Maryborough as one of his favourite tracks. Warren Lawler and Paul Raynes are two New South Welshmen who have stood on the podium at previous Aussie Titles and are both keen to have NSW back on top of the dais at this years competition. Lismore trio Craig Smith, Richard Mules and Tony Brearley have been lightning in the Queensland competition this season and are all big chances. Former two-time Australian Champion Darren Vine, leads the charge for the Queenslanders and Vine is a last start winner after "hosing" the competition at Archerfield only a few weeks ago. Lucas Jackson, Rob Stewart, Brad Sloan, Wayne Corbett and Chris Singleton are some of the other big hopes for Queensland. Maryborough will be represented by four drivers in the title, with Ian Bates, Gary Harris, Mark Heffler and Geoff Scott. The big Maryborough crowd will no doubt cheer on the locals all weekend. The Modified Productions hit the track on Saturday at 4pm with the first 3 rounds of heats. With the quality field that has nominated, these races will be action aplenty and certainly worth checking out. On Sunday night commencing at 4pm, the Modified Production will contest two more rounds of heats before the B Main and 30 lap "Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix feature race. When the field includes the likes of Australian Champion Todd Doyle, Qld #1 Aidan Raymont, Qld #2 Gavin Lorensen, Qld #3 Glenn Pagel, NSW #1 Steve Price, and former Queensland Champion Johnno Collins and former Aussie Champ Greg Worling and a whole host of others, will be one of the hottest fields of Modified Production drivers ever assembled at Maryborough Speedway. The flying formula 500's make their return to Maryborough for the Formula 500 Super Series. A field of 18 drivers have nominated including Queensland Champ, Dan Moes, and fellow Maryborough Super stars Dale Shilleto, Ben Dorsett and Wayne Moller. Moller who is has had a successful return to racing in his brand new Hyper Formula 500, will be flying up Victorian lady racer, Jessica Moulden who is currently leading the Victorian Formula 500 Stampede Series and who just last weekend, won the 2008 Victorian F500 Title. Jessica doesn't mind mixing it with the boys and is looking forward to piloting the second Wayne Moller Hyper race car. The lone New South Welshmen Kenny Norman is heading north to take on the Qlder's on of the Formula 500's favourite race tracks. Robert Muscat and Paul Swindells are flying the flag for the north as both Mackay races are always competitive and love "stirring up" the locals. No doubt the one driver everyone will be keeping their eye on is 16 year old, Woodgate Rookie Sensation, Brock Hallet, who smoked the field at the last Formula 500 event in Maryborough and who finished fourth at the recent Oval Express Series in VIC and NSW over the Christmas/ New Year break. One thing for sure, the Formula 500 will "turn it on" over both nights. The ever popular dwarf cars are back to trill and 24 cars have nominated for both nights. These little pocket rockets are certainly growing in popularity on and off the track. Queensland Champion Scott Lehfeldt is keen to keep is good form going and claim another win in the Dwarf Car division. The Nostalgia Sedans will run on Sunday night, and will give the older fans, a time to reminisce, as the FJ's grace the Maryborough circuit. Racing on Saturday and Sunday nights start at 4pm with gates opening at 1pm. The fantastic canteen and bar will be in operation and the FREE jumping castle is back for the kids. Make sure you don't miss either night of "Sensational" Speedway action at the Maryborough Speedway this Saturday and Sunday.
"The Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix - Modified Productions Posted 20th January, 2008 A cracker field of 42 Modified Productions have nominated for this weekends "Raw Sausage" Wide Bay Grand Prix. The field includes Australian Champion Todd Doyle and Queensland Champion Aidan Raymont. Aidan Raymont hasn't been beaten at Maryborough this season and is looking at keeping that record in tact, but Aussie Champ Todd Doyle has been in red hot form winning most of the other Modified Production racing in Queensland. The field also includes 7 drivers from North Queensland. Leading the charge from the north is former Queensland champ Johnno Collins who is making the trek from Cairns to have the final hitout on the Maryborough track before the Australian Title at Easter Time. Add in Chris Jensen, Miles Gilroy, Ken Menzies, Jarvis Menzies, Ross Welby and Adam Jorgonson. Maryborough will be represented by three drivers, Steven Zahl, Travis Hutchinson and Brendan Bayfield who are all looking for a strong showing. What a weekend it will be with over 40 Compact Speedcars contesting the Australian Compact Speedcar Title, over 40 Modified Productions, nearly 20 Formula 500's for the South Queensland Series and a big field of Dwarf Cars. Tomkins takes home the cash Posted 2nd December, 2007 American superstar, Gary Tomkins last night showed why he is one of the best in the world as he raced home to win the Round 2 of the Rooster Cup for the V8 Dirt Modifieds.
A field of 21 cars fronted for the round of the Rooster Cup, and the field included current Australian Champion Tim Morse and former champions Mark Robinson and Andrew Pezzutti. The heat racing was fast and furious with plenty of red hot action. Tim Morse who made the trip up from Avalon in Victoria set the quickest time of the night with a 13.186 second lap which is the fastest lap around Maryborough in a V8 Dirt Modified. 19 cars lined up for a final and the final was frantic from the get go. Although the track was extremely fast, the track didn't have it's normal "drive" on the high line so we didn't see as much racing to the fence as the fans have come accustom too at the Maryborough Speedway. The feature race was still very entertaining with plenty of passing during the final. Tim Morse got to the lead and looked to have it in the bag, until he lost ignition and had to pull to the infield. This allowed Tomkins to take the lead and race away to win Round 2 of the V8 Dirt Modified Rooster Cup. Lismore's Mark Robinson finished second with Matty Pascoe coming from 9th to finish 3rd. Maryborough Speedway is looking forward to the hosting the V8 Dirt Modifieds back in town for the $15,000 King of the Ring to be held over the 2008 Anzac weekend. 37 ASCF Juniors where on hand for the running of the Qld Title and Brisbane's Kristin Brown took the feature win from Kingaroy's Nathan Francis with Kristin's brother finishing in third. Mitch Thomsen threw everything at them and finished strongly in fourth. The nights racing from the Juniors was fantastic however late in the night two separate incidents saw two drivers taken to Hospital and halted proceedings to the race meeting. Thankfully both drivers where later released without any major injuries. The Compact Speedcars contested the Wide Bay Cup and as it was their final hitout before the Australian Title is held at Maryborough Speedway over the Australia Day weekend the racing was top shelf. Richard Mules took out the feature race from Brad Sloan and Tony Brearley. Unfortunately due to the earlier incidents and the delay to the race meeting the Street Sedan feature race had to be cancelled. The heat racing from the Street Sedans was once again entertaining with 26 cars on hand. Maryborough Speedway will be back on the 29th December when we will send off 2007 with a bang, when we will be having a massive fireworks show along with the Modified Productions, AMCA's, Dwarf Cars, Nostalgia Sedans and the Qld Title for the Speedway Karts. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would once again
like to thank their major sponsor of the night "Watson's Bobcat
Hire". Get set for a "Sensational" night of Speedway action Posted 26th November, 2007 The sweet sound of the 650 horse power V8 Dirt Modifieds make there welcome return to Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night for Round 2 of the Rooster Cup. 22 drivers have nominated and the list is full of the who's who of V8 Dirt Modified racing.
Heading the list is USA superstar Gary Tomkins who is ready to tackle Maryborough and show why he is one of the premier V8 Dirt Modified drivers in the world. The Current Australian Champion Tim Morse, is making the trip up from Avalon in Victoria and is ready and raring to go to ruin "the yanks" party. The field also included former national champions Andrew Pezzutti, Stuart Herne and Mark Robinson. Another man who is in red hot form with three A Mains wins in a row, Luke Oldfield (current series leader & defending series champion) is looking forward to returning to Maryborough after his dominance of the Maryborough track back in May, earlier this year. Oldfield is the current Queensland & New South Wales Champion and is looking forward to returning to the always super fast Maryborough Speedway. The ASCF Juniors will be contesting the Queensland Title and 37 drivers have nominated. Drivers from Western Australia, South Australia and all over Queensland have nominated and it is anyone's guess who will take out the Title. Leading the charge in the locals are Mitch Thomsen, Kayla Barron and Hamish Redman. All three are looking forward to taking on the best and are all hoping for big things come this Saturday night. The Compact Speedcars return for the running of the Wide Bay Cup and a quality field of 20 drivers are ready and raring to go. Former Australian Champion Darren Vine is looking for some of the old spark that previously saw him dominate the Compact Speedcar division for so many season. He will have the likes of Wayne Corbett, Brad Sloan, Chris Singleton, Tony Brearley and last start winner Lucas Jackson all looking to reign on his parade. It is the final hitout at Maryborough for the Compact Speedcars before the Maryborough Speedway hosts the 2008 Australian Compact Speedcar Title over the Australia Day weekend in January 2008. The Street Sedans make up the action packed program and Maryborough is very well represented by 10 of our own drivers. They are Chris Elliot, Glenn Richters, Josh Arthur, Sam Grundy, Richard Brosnan, Shane Skene, Keryn Goodwin, Mark Ferguson, Breck Dowell and Steve Brunke. The locals are all looking at stopping Sunshine Coast flyer David Kent who won the last Street Sedan final held at Maryborough Speedway. The action in the Street Sedans been as good and entertaining as ever this season, as both division's one and two, have been combined giving high car counts, full heats and a full field of 22 cars for the 20 lap feature race at the end of the night. Saturday night should be no different with close to 30 Street Sedans nominated for the meeting. All the action gets underway at 4pm with the V8's on track from about 5:30pm. The Maryborough Speedway has an excellent and well priced canteen and food vans as well as a licensed bar area. Please be aware that the Speedway complex doesn't allow any alcohol or glass to be brought into the complex and has security checking eskies and bags at the main gate which open at 1pm. The always popular FREE jumping castle is back for the kids, so make sure you don't miss a minute of the action this Saturday night at Maryborough Speedway. It's gonna be a cracker... The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would once again like to thank our major sponsor for the meeting Watson Bobcat Hire.

V8 Dirt Modified Rooster Cup organiser, Ray Klarich is extremely excited about the international flavour for Round 2 of the series to be held at Maryborough. "The mere fact that we will have an American in the field has stirred so much interest", said Klarich. "The who's who of Australian V8 Dirt Modified racing want to have a crack at him that is why Tim Morse, Mark Robinson and Stuart Herne all want to come up to Maryborough to show him who's boss", Klarich stated. This will be a massive meeting for the Maryborough Speedway with plenty of people traveling from far and wide to witness the best in Australia taking on one of the best of America. Racing on the night gets underway from 4pm with the V8 Dirt Modifieds on track from 5:30pm. Thanks again to everyone for the new hill Posted 16th November, 2007 The Maryborough Sporting Car Club would once again like to thank everyone that assisted in the new terraced seating at the Maryborough Speedway. It has already proved very popular and well received by everyone that has attended the Maryborough Speedway this season. The new terracing has added a new dimension to the complex and allows for more comfort for the entire family and allows us to host bigger events with bigger crowds. Without the help from Geritz Earthmoving, Frank Packer and his excavator and bobcat, Watson' bobcat hire and rest of the hard working club volunteers, the fantastic new seating would not be possible. If you haven't been to the speedway for some time, make sure you come along, as you won't be disappointed.
"Watson's Bobcat Hire" joins on as Major sponsor for 1st December Posted 15th November, 2007 "Watson's Bobcat Hire" have joined forces with Maryborough Speedway to become the major sponsor for the upcoming 1st December, 2007 V8 Dirt Modified meeting.

Burnouts CANCELLED Posted 12th November, 2007 Due to extremely low nominations, the 2 day burnout show due to be held at Maryborough on 24th and 25th November, has been cancelled. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club has worked extremely hard in trying to make the Burnout Bonanza's a success in Maryborough however without the support of local burnout competitors and supporters, the future for them doesn't look good. At this stage the Maryborough Speedway has no further dates for burnouts. Aidan Raymont wins Round 2 Posted 12th November, 2007 Queensland Modified Production Champion Aidan Raymont has captured the Round 2 win of the G & W Racing Modified Production Series held at Maryborough Speedway, last Saturday night. Raymont started the final off the front row, but had his work cut out for him as he followed Aussie Champ Todd Doyle who go the lead early in the final and looked like he would race away for the win. With only a handful of laps to go Doyle came out of turn 4, hit a rut and turned himself around, bring on the yellows and sending him to the rear of the field. Raymont raced home to win the final and take the series lead. Shane MacDonald who worked the highline all night finished the feature race in second with Mark Raymont filling the minor placings. Due to the rain earlier in the week and the track being ripped after the Sprintcar meeting in October, the race surface rutted up extremely bad which needed grading twice during the night. Due to some of the "holes" in the track the racing was still very close and extremely entertaining. Unfortunately the ruts claimed a few victims with Neil Coomber having one of the biggest sedan roll overs ever seen at Maryborough Speedway. Coomber walked away un hurt however his AU Falcon Modified Production isn't quite the same. Coomber rolled some 4 or 5 times and even hit the top of the catch fence. Nathan Francis also rolled in the ASCF Junior Final and Glenn Richters rolled his Cortina in a Street Sedan heat race. Thankfully everyone walked away without serious injury. The Street Sedan feature race was extremely eventful and saw a fantastic battle up the front. Chris Elliot and Keryn Goodwin ran first and second for numerous laps until Goodwin hit a rut and blew the right rear tyre. Elliot was doing it well out in front until Sunshine Coast flyer David Kent who was battling with the high line, was able to get around the outside of Elliot and win the Street Sedan feature race. Elliot finished second and Jim Cowley finished third. Brisbane brother and sister combo, Charlie and Kristin Brown took out the ASCF Junior A Main Quinella with Maryborough's Mitch Thomsen finishing third. Mitch Thomsen also took out the QSCA Junior Street Sedan final from Josh Harm and Tiffany O'Keeffe. The Maryborough Speedway is now looking forward to 1st December for the return of the V8 Dirt Modifieds for Round 2 of the Rooster Cup. The night will also feature the Qld Title for the ASCF Juniors and the Wide Bay Cup for the Compact Speedcars. All systems are go for this Saturday night Posted 8th November, 2007 Despite the rain, Round 2 of the G & W Racing Modified Production Series will go ahead as planned this Saturday night. Congratulations to our crew up in Rocky Posted 22nd October, 2007 Our local drivers flew the Maryborough flag well in Rockhampton on the weekend with Chris Elliot, Steve Thomsen finishing on the podium and both Keryn Goodwin and Glenn Richters finishing in the top 6. Thorley smashes them in Maryborough Posted 14th October, 2007 Pete Thorley has raced home in his 850hp V8 Sprintcar to not only win last nights round of the MSAQ Series but set a new lap record with a 11.110 second lap.
A fantastic field fronted for the night's action in front of another big crowd that witnessed some more fantastic wheel to wheel V8 Sprintcar racing. Pete Thorley threw-out the challenge to the rest of the field of Sprintcars in hotlaps when it rocketed his machine into the record books by breaking the lap record previously held by Andrew Scheuerle. The heat racing was fast and furious and David "Blingy" Muir was a standout with a drive around the fence to nearly win a heat after starting back further down the field. Clem Hoffmans and Brad Hilder started on the front row of the B Main and were never troubled as Hilder raced away to win the "B" and book himself a ticket into the nights 25 lap feature race. In a salute to the crowd the V8 Sprintcars rolled around in a 3 wide formation which was applauded by the big, big Maryborough crowd. The A Main got under way and the track was black slick and it was going to be the driver that could look after his right rear and make it go the distance. The first stoppage occurred when Craig Stevenson back his Ace Fireworks #10 into the back straight fence and that allowed all drivers to head to the infield to cool the tyres down. At the restart Gessner again raced away, however he still had Thorley hot on his tail. As the race continued the leaders began to drive through lap traffic and Thorley and Gessner changed positions numerous times before Thorley finally got passed and was able to hold Gessner at bay to win the 25 lap feature race. Gessner finished second ahead of Andrew Scheuerle. The Maryborough Speedway is certainly looking forward to seeing the V8 Sprintcars return to Maryborough for another round of the MSAQ Series to be held on 1st March. The Speedcars or as they are now known "the mighty midgets", returned to Maryborough however they had plenty of car troubles and a few incidents which saw only 3 cars finish the feature race. Jeremy Hassell, who rode a massive rollover at Charlton last weekend, was able to hold off a fast finishing Darren Dillon to win the Speedcar A Main. The flying Formula 500 returned in the young 16 year old from Woodgate Brock Hallet took out the feature race in only his third outing in the Formula 500. Hallet was able to race away and put a sizeable gap between himself and current Queensland Champion Dan Moes. The Compact Speedcars also found it difficult to get a handle on the slick conditions and saw plenty of engine problems and blown right rears. After numerous attempts the final was taken out by Tony Brealy from Richard Mules and Lindsay Hobbs. The Nostalgia Sedans rounded out the program and Cyril Bates was too good for John Watson and Chris Barlow. The Maryborough Sporting Car Club now have a well earned month break before the Modified Productions return to Maryborough Speedway for Round 2 of the G & W Racing Series to be held on 10th November. If you missed the action from last night you can get a copy of the action from Steve's DVD who captured all the awesome action from last nights show. You can contract them on 0429 990 702 or 4152 0827 or you can email them sschnabe@bigpond.net.au. 27 V8 Sprintcars set for Maryborough Posted 9th October, 2007 An unbelievable field of 27 V8 Sprintcars have nominated to run at Maryborough Speedway this Saturday night. Saturday night will see the very best of Queensland's if not Australian Sprintcar drivers battle it out for all important MSAQ Championship Points.
Among the field of nominated drivers is last Sprintcar meeting winner Peter Lack who is having his second last hitout before embarking of a season on the road competing in the World Series Sprintcars. Lack drove around the fence at Maryborough last season to win the feature race and he said that this weekend will be no different. Former Australian #3 Cameron Gessner is looking forward to having his first ever hitout on the Maryborough track.
Lap record holder Andrew Scheuerle driving for a new team in season 07/08 is looking forward to returning to Maryborough and hopefully bettering his lap record time of 11.151 seconds. Scheuerle comes into this weekend on a high after winning the feature race last Saturday night at Brisbane International Speedway.
Darrell Hodges makes a welcomed return to Maryborough and has always done well in the Heritage City. Also among the nominations is young David "Blingy" Muir who ran second to Lack at the last show and is looking forward to going one better this season. Another driver having his last hitout before leaving for the season on World Series Sprintcars is Cairns flyer Allan Haynes. Haynes is making the trip down to Maryborough this Saturday night and doesn't plan on leaving without the top prize. Maryborough favourite and "nearly" local Brad Hilder is nominated for this Saturday and is looking forward to showing off the new colours of his Jim Beam Black Razor V8 Sprintcar. It will be the first time that Maryborough will get to see the Sprintcars with their new 410 cubic inch motors that produce over 800 horse power. Up until this season the V8 Sprintcars could only run 374 cubic inch motors which produced 700 horsepower. So this Saturday night will provide plenty more power, plenty more speed and plenty more action. A great field of Speedcars, Compact Speedcars, Formula 500's and Nostalgia Sedans have nominated and as per usual a full bar and canteen will be in operation and the Free Jumping Castle will be running as per usual. Don't forget that NO Alcohol or glass is to be brought onto the complex and eskies will be checked when coming through the gates. Early racing starts at 4pm with the V8 Sprintcars starting around 5:30pm. Gates open at 1pm and their is plenty of new seating and grass terraced hills to comfortably seat the whole family. This will be a show you don't want to miss, so make sure you get your backside trackside, this Saturday night. V8 Sprintcar Nominations
